what qualifies as a rare part?
cause honestly i just see a bunch of really expensive parts... i would think a rare parts would be unattainable items even when you have monies to purchase. i mean the monetary value would have something to do with it, but for the most part everything i see can be purchased brand new any day of the week. just wondering... loving all these parts those, wish i had the cash.

I have to agree that the true definition of a rare car part is a part that's highly sought after, but unattainable (like the Hebbi Bebbi). But we are talking custom cars... sought after custom mods like trimmed doors, full LED dash and guages can be rare too. But I would not consider parts nobody wants as something too rare because it's only rare because nobody wants it!
As for who posted what and which definition the part falls under, I don't know, and nor do I care. I just opened this thread to see pics of G35 parts, not all this talk dammit!

so unpopular items are automatically made rare? hmmm... this is more along the lines of post your ballin *** parts. i'm not arguing that items in this thread aren't nice, just dont see them being rare, more along the lines of top dollar items.

No, parts that nobody want are not rare, but people who have them tend to think they are. But oftentimes, the idea itself is rare since everybody still falls into a certain status quo and wants the same HKS or Stillen exhaust everybody else has (think a bit further outside the box).
And about the parts that cost a grip... anybody with money can have them, but you gotta think of it like a Ferrari F430 or other exotic cars... I don't care how many of which model they make, unless you're in LA Hollywood area or Miami(?), they're still pretty rare to see, no? Anybody with money can have one, but not everybody with money will buy one. Now, if you want to talk about what makes a car exotic, that's a different story with many different point of views too...

I think we're getting into a linguistics argument here.
From dictionary.com:
IMO, both Craftysince86 and dofu are essentially arguing the same side of the coin.
For example, i have a UTR roof spoiler that i think is rare because *i don't think* they make them anymore.
I also have Gunmetal TE37's that are rare because they are uncommon... as in they're rare to see.
I dunno. I may be wrong, but this is just IMHO.
From dictionary.com:
