The rear strut tower brace unifies the two towers together, reducing flex during hard cornering, stiffening up the rear end, and hopefully improving traction. That's the simple explanation

Thanks man! The bar in the first pic is actually just bare metal that Dave cleaned up a little, took the pic right after we finished the test fit. Marty actually painted it a gun metal color, I finally saw it this weekend and it looked great. I'm guessing when it's ready to go the chroming will be an option, and a powder coated version will be the standard.

how is it attached to the shock towers? bolted?

is it just me or is the pieces that attach to the shock towers shorter in the first pic/ longer in the chromed pics? ...not that it matters though..lol

It's bolted on. The pics from the first post are of a different bar in a different car then the chromed bar. The chromed bar has been tweaked a little design wise, so they probably do look a little different side by side.

i understand that a straight bar design like your is stronger than a bent or welded design, but from what i know its not that much stronger by comparison.

So for those of us who dont want to take the 5-mins to remove the bar and then have it rolling around in the car or have it sit somewhere at home or in garage everytime we need to use the pass through, couldnt a design like below work just as well but not require removal?

this was a 2minute attempt just to get the idea across, nothing i have planned or anything so be nice!!!!

yeah i use it for work, its good stuff...in my head i pictured round tube stock, but now that i look at it and think about it, oval tubing wouldnt be a bad idea because it would help with clearance, but from what i recall oval tubing is a little more expensive than round.

after thinking about it I may just build my own with some additional braces to get the overall look and function I'm going for.

Where's Eric in this thread, he said he was working on a modified stillen bar that he might help bring to market.

that was my second thought as well, it would be smaller cheaper material equally if not stronger and lower profile as well.

im kind of hoping something will come to market that i like with regards to RSTB because I really lack the motivation to get my ideas made. partly because they rely on other people to physically make them as i have zippy welding skills.
