Mod Day in SFL.DM2 Coolant Bypass and More

It was a busy day and a full day in SFL. It was my first trip to the USCG Station in Opa Locka and the MWR garage. Mike has had my modified coolant bypass pipes for about 6 weeks but just haven't gotten our schedules right until today to get them installed. We also had a Setrab oil cooler and UR crank pulley. Thanks to Mike and Ernest for taking the time today to help with the install which is pretty involved and not for those without patience.

I should have taken more pictures but it was pretty busy so I'll try to make up with it in the after pictures during the week. By the end of the day (8AM-8PM) I think everyone wanted to get home.

Ernest and I got a head start while Mike was enroute. We pulled the under tray, upper plenum, airbox, intake, thermostat, drained the oil and coolant and started to either remove or temporarily move what seemed like every engine wiring harness and hose or vaccum line.

Getting the old pipes out is no easy deal although going back in was much easier.

I'll post up the pics and edit as I go.

This was during the removal stage. The last pic shows the idler pulley which was removed and replaced with a DM2 delete spacer. I'm not sure what I was doing at the time but by the time I got back to take a look, Mike had the idler pulley off and half way done with the crank pulley (Mike and Ernest have quite the effective and ingenius method for getting the crank pulley off and the UR pulley on in next to no time.

I haven't heard to it referred to as that but it could be. Basically, the pre-warmers and unnecessary lines and hoses are removed.

I'll get the after pics up tomorrow. It cleaned up the front of the engine bay and I expect it to run cooler. We had a couple of issues purging the coolant system. I'll check the coolant level in the morning and add and see if the temp comes down some more.

Here's some of the after pics. I had to take the new pup out so I took some quick shots. The first and fourth picture show where the idler pulley was prior to removal. The aluminum spacer is all that is visible now and fit perfectly!

Wow looks like alot of work, Do you feel any difference with the crank pulley?

The only difference I felt on the crank pulley was the weight when I picked up the OEM one, about 5 times the weight. A local member was selling and relatively cheap so I picked it up. Just another part I've had sitting in my closet for over two months.

I'm going to take your advice on that one. I've been looking for a spare coolant reservoir. I do like how yours turned out and you almost don't even see it in the engine bay.
