I have heard some local lightning horror stories, it sucks but I think the car got off fairly lucky.

Needless to say, glad to see you the car and your mum are alright.

A friend of mine's Chrysler 300 got hit over night on it's roof. It fried the entire wiring harness and he had to have it re-wired. It still has electrical problems.
