^Only one of the engine bays pictured in this thread has a timing cover that was done by hand (bigc's). Our timing covers were professionally polished by either SxExCx, Decor, or Kaleidoscope. I think bigc used a dremel with an attachment on his timing cover. Lots of sanding and polishing, but it can be done just very time consuming.

if this is the area you're talking about (see attached pix), just take your time because its particularly rough. my process was sanding up from 400 -> 600 -> 1,000 -> 1,500 -> 2,000 grit sandpaper, then finishing up with jeweler's rouge and a dremel. that area is very tight and deep (giggity), so i wrapped the sandpaper around a 1/2" wide x 1/8" thick piece of wood so i could get in there with some force. btw, make sure you're wetsanding (a spray bottle of water is useful). don't just go sticking something in there dry and expect for things to go easy (giggity).

Chris worked on that timing cover for a couple of months, I remember when he was doing it. His hands were dirty for like 3 months after he was finished haha. So much work, but you can't tell he did it on the car, looks like he swapped it.

Are you guys using the 1000+ grit with an orbital sander when polishing? (the plenum for example) I can't find anything over 220 grit for orbital sanders.

once I hit 220 grit I switch to hand sanding in straight lines, Orbital sanding wont give as true a polish

I was talking to Fab (Silencer_0) earlier this week and he said that he would be at Randy's today working on his car. I stopped by to see what they were working on and hang out for a bit. Fab got a Koyo radiator, Mishimoto fan shroud, more braided hoses and some clean up of various things.

Vortech!

Koyo radiator gets a thumbs up from my oldest son.

Randy doing his thing.

Box of bling.

Fab's ride lookin' proper.
