Z tube with stock filter

I like it. Makes the car sound much more aggressive under load. Not too loud either, unless you're in a parking garage, then you can get some good resonation off the walls.

I opted to keep the stock airbox and filter because I've messed with oiled filters in the past and to me the benefits were not worth the extra trouble of cleaning and oiling. Also, I want better filtration since I plan to keep this car for awhile. On my previous car I wasted the mass airflow sensor by over oiling the filter, which was easy for me to do.

Re: Z tube with stock filter

If you're going to install the Z Tube or Popcharger, read this: (link). This thread discuses the problem in detail and could save you hundreds in repair.

Repaired the link, but it appears that the original post was damaged during the site conversion.

Mandatory reading. At least if you don't want to spend $700 on A/C repair in your near future.

Good post.

Re: Z tube with stock filter

Not really any HP gains... mainly just for the sound.... Driving with the windows down and hearing the VQ is great! I love driving in tunnels and earing the resonation and sound of the engine...

Re: Z tube with stock filter

i disagree, you should see a small HP gain above 3500-4000 rpm.

Re: Z tube with stock filter

The Z-tube resulted in a more aggressive sound, especially above 3500 rpm and at WOT. Didn't notice any power increase with Z-tube nor the K&N filter.

Re: Z tube with stock filter

I got a question though... if something bad happens to the car because of the pop charger and Z tube, will that still be covered by the warranty?
I know that Z-tube is a Nissan OEM part but what about the pop charger?

Re: Z tube with stock filter

u can buy it anywhere. usually 75 for new ones, but board members sell them used for really cheap.
u install it urself...replacing the stock intake tube with a fat resonator.
i'm not sure if it affects the warranty cuz its a 350z tube.

I just completed my install of the Z-Tube and K&N. Took it for a spin didn't notice much of a HP gains. There's a slight difference, hard to notice. Doesn't matter sounds good.
PlatG took his install a step further using insulation tape to keep the inside of the Z-Tube cooler by wrapping it. The idea is to keep the engine heat out or at least help to keep it out. Check out the pics.

the z-tube and K&n brought new life to my car! My car pulls so much better and i definately feel more power on the top end. Not to mention the sexy sound when hitting 5k rpms!

I chose to go z-tube and k&n because it looks stock and i do want hassle when taking my car in for service. but as i have researched extensively, people say that z-tube and k&n is the best combo.

the only down side of the z-tube and k&n
The mileage i get on a tank of gas has significantly decreased due to always pushing the pedal to the floor to hear the sexy vq. damn the z-tube!
