Z tube and KN filter vs pop charger vs stillen cold air intake system
I'm planning on going with a z tube either a k&N filter or popcharger but I'm worried about the sound of the car. How aggressive is the sound and does still have that same beautiful prrrr the car makes? Does the car sound louder when you turn it on or only around 3500 rpm? How loud is the car with only a z tube?

I have 2003 sedan. I went Stillen Cold Air Intake (CAI) with Z-tube. Here's some sound clips of before and after...

My feedback after 2months of driving;
- the z-tube: best bang for the buck - cheap and easy! I had no clearance issues.
- The stillen CAI does seem to provide more top-end, some minor low end loss (butt-dyno).
- it is quite a bit louder after ~2,500-3,000 rpm. But car can be driven normally and it sounds pretty much stock (until you get on it)
- WOT it roars, almost too loud for me, but after I did some sound deadening to quieten some cabin buzzing and reverb, I like it better.
- I developed an almost imperceptible "whistle" with the Stillen CAI, kinda like a turbo spool-up whistle.
- I went with the Stillen vs the injen or others because the intake is in the stock position - no risk of water intake from a lower intake position - also it appears almost stock at first glance.
- I just added a HKS performance muffler and it quietened the top-end roar a bit and feels like it added extra pull on top-end. (plus a low-end rumble, which I like)
No dyno yet, waiting for a dyno day. Yo step-up houston!
AJ - out.

K&N makes a drop-in panel high flow air filter that fits into the stock airbox...it replaces the stock panel filter
Both applications can be used with the Z-tube.
It appears that the PC would be easier to take of and clean the filter than the Stillen. The Stillen it looks like you need to remove the entire box to get to the air filter. Is this obeservation correct??

I am starting to do some mods in my G35C and I am learning a lot from the posts. There are a lot of good posts about the z tube and k&n filters. I was wondering if anyone else has used a different cone filter besides k&n, like Apexi, and how they like it? Also does anyone have the aluminum z tube and is there a difference? Thanks.

Common Sense
Think about this... The AEM/Injen wheel well intakes may suck cold air BUT the stillen gets cold air from induction hole in the front and from the side tube making it a better intake system because cold air is constantly circulating , blowing out any hot air that would get in the vicinity of the filter.
