Stillen Oil Cooler

Well, installed my Stillen Oil Cooler this weekend. With that, and my JWT oil spacer, my oil should stay cool!

The install was relatively easy, although the directions from Stillen were kind of ****ty. They were like a FAQ here on G35driver, except the pictures were really small, and the instructions kind of confusing. By the above, I mean FAQ's here are generally good, but this one from Stillen kind of sucked.

This is where my rotozip (dremel thing) came in very handy; you have to grind away some plastic on various places to mount the oil cooler and route the lines. The cooler itself is very nice; it is about twice the size of the stock power steering cooler, so you know your oil will stay cool. The lines were steel braided, and high quality, as was the rest of the kit, including the oil filter adapter. Overall, the quality was very nice.

Took me about 3 hours to install it, but I generally take my time when working on G; it's kind of relaxing for me and all that.

I don't have an oil temp gauge, but I do have an OBD II reader that constantly displays water temp, so I will monitor that and see if there is a drop. Really, the oil cooler is not a necessary mod for a N/A car, but I plan on going TT in the near future (Hurry up, JWT!) so this is insurance for that.

I'll post here in a week or so with what I see for temp differences.

Dave

Edit: Added some pics; also, I haven't seem any temp differences in the past week

And yes, my car is very dirty right now, it's been raining here in Hawaii so much lately, I haven't been able to wash it

Why would the coolant temperature drop?
That is controlled by the thermostat [until the thermostat is 100% open].

Well, yeah. Thats how the coolant/radiator/cooling system works. Obviously, you know this.

However, as I understand it, at normal operating temps, the thermostat is 100% open, or thereabouts. I think it opens fully at 174 F, but I am not sure on that. My G generally ran about 184-190 at normal operating temp

So, if there is another factor added in (the oil cooler) that cools off some part of the engine, then the overall coolant temps should drop a bit, because the oil is now cooler, and thus the engine will be a little bit cooler. Of course, once the temp gets below the thermostat temp, it will start to close, and thus control the temp from going too low.

Necro thread bump...

Yes it works. Worth it if you track your G or if you use FI. I do both, so it is worth it for me.
