Wilwood kits, parts and support
Wilwood kits, parts and support
Greetings,
Currently there are a number of shops and on line retailers who sell Factory Wilwood big brake kits, as well as a number of alternatley produced kits with Wilwood product. TCE Performance Products would like to offer you the full line of Wilwood factory kits, replacement parts and pads at competitive prices and become your 'go to' contact for customer support.
With over 22yrs in Motorsports, TCE has been a Wilwood dealer and custom BBK builder for 14yrs. In fact, longer than some of the bigger manufactures have been in business. Over the years TCE has produced kits for street performance vehicles as well as open track use from sedans to open wheel race cars. We've seen changes in both the Wilwood product line and experienced first hand some of the improvements to both calipers and pads. And with a background in racing and three Pikes Peak Hill Climb wins owner Todd Cook has a keen understanding of brake kit tuning necessary to aide customers in proper parts selection.
We know you have a choice in your brake kit purchase. At TCE our prices may not be the absolute lowest quoted (we prefer not to play the vendor vs. vendor games) but customer service from a company completely familiar with the product line will more than make up for any small difference in price. Feel free to call or pm (may take longer to reply) your needs.
As you may know, Wilwood has recently released a new PARKING BRAKE rear kit for the 350z/G35 line. This kit retains 100% stock parking brake parts via a custom iron hat. Combined with either the 13" or 14" front kits this combo offers extreme looks, braking performance and value for your dollar. And retains the stock parking brake making installation both easy and complete.
For current Wilwood (and alternate built Wilwood shod kits) TCE stocks many of the replacement parts you may require for track day use from a full line of Polymatrix track pads, to GT rotors, to caliper parts should you break or damage a bleeder screw.
Should you wish to consider custom work beyond the factory kits and require something as wild as 16" front rotors....TCE is your shop for making such dreams a reality. Your finished product will be well built and properly suited to your application.
Regards, and thanks for your time.

Yeah can you post the link to your website and so forth. I was in the market for a brake kit, but put that on hold due to other commitments. Thanks.

Red calipers by special order via TCE only. Not currently avail from Wilwood in red.
The question came up again on rear caliper colors and why/how etc.
Currently Wilwood does not offer the new DP caliper for this rear kit in red finish. They'll fess it was not a great move to assemble all the bodies in black and thus have no matching kits for the front....still, they will not be offering red rears for a number of weeks if not longer.
TCE can expedite rears in red with a couple of considerations.
First the kit must be sent in full to TCE for the work. Means a bit more shippping cost as it will pass through my door.
Second, the caliper will be milled down to remove the current Wilwood logo (its milled INTO the body) and thus needs about .010" cut.
After pc work the caliper will then be all red. To put the Wilwood logo back we can fit Wilwood decals to the body which closely resemble the front caliper. We will offer this total service for $125- same as a front kit.
*If you want the logo MILLED into the body again it can be done but set up, programing and run fee will be an addtional $150 due to the short run.
I am sorry to not be able to easily expedite the red finish via a click and ship manner but it can be done if you are patient. Also we can expedite any color caliper both front and rear in the same manner if your desire is yellow for example. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Based upon known builds for Lightnings and Magnums in much the same format, the base price would run about $2800-3000. From 15 to 16" rotor the price does not change but the caliper of use (TC6) works well anywhre in between.
A 19" wheel has shown to accomdate about 15.3" of rotor whereas a 20" wheel will fit the full size 16" rotor.
Final price would also depend in part on; color, bracket complexity, rotor finish, tax (seeing your local), and shop time for the mock ups and final test fit.
If you're really interested call or stop in. I'll let you hold the parts personally!

No, a 14" kit will not fit a 17" wheel. At least none that I've seen.

Yes and the reason for that is fit.
In this case a number of aftermarket suppliers "push" the caliper to the max. Meaning the BSL6 or FSL are deisnged for rotors of 13". However you can add about .300" more radius via custom rotors and make the claim of 13.6 vs 13.0" rotor. However...if you go larger than this you have two problems- first the pad begin to overhang the edge of the rotor. Secondly the top and bottom of the caliper bridge will contact the rotor.
The caliper has a max RADIUS to fit- it's about 6.5" and in this case the added .300" simply takes up all the added space you might have to work from.
In the end while this makes for great bragging rights the net gain of performance is more than offset by the added cost. You see, you have to take a full 14" Coleman rotor and turn it down to 13.6" to do this. The cost of that blank is much higher than the more common 13" casting. And for what it's worth only available in 1.25" width version, not a 1.10 which is often used on many front applications.
While it's not without some merit the added cost, custom build time and the minimal swept area and tq values are not worth it in my mind to deal with. Working from more standard sized parts gives one the a more realistic package with regard to parts inventory, build time, and cost.
Yes you've seen it, but it's not about how big will fit the wheel, it's how big it will fit the caliper.
*As both a Wilwood dealer for 14yrs as well as a custom builder, it should be noted that none of these designs are "Wilwood Kits" as is often the stated case. This is not a bad thing but you will not get help with parts and service via Wilwood or its dealers referencing these kits. You will need to contact the supplier who produced it.

NEWS:
Wilwood is soon to be offering factory applied colors beyond RED. New pre assembly colors to include; BLUE, SILVER, YELLOW and newer BSL6 calipers in poweder coated BLACK.
All these (except the black) will be by special order and from what I'm told about 2-3wks delivery time. That's the good news, but the bad news is that again at this time such work is not yet offered on the DP caliper rear 13" kit....
