This may be regarded as a stupid question!!!

the other night i looked at my tires and i realized that the rears were looking a little flat, because the temperature drop in jersey is crazy. So i decided to put air in the tires. Now i had the 19's before and it says the psi on the inside driver door, but now i have 20's and i'm kinda assuming my tires of a lower profile i could be wrong though. i think my old tires were somewhere in the low 30's maybe i cant remember, but i looked at my tires to see what i should be putting in and it reads 45, that doesn't make sence to me, or is it the lower profile the tires the higher the psi. i just dont want to put too much in and blow my tire up. is this number correct or am i reading the wrong numbers on my tires?

35 PSI for the 19's
When I put 40 PSI, the rattles come out in the car.

Yeah the rating on the tire is the maximum you can put in your tire. It's way higher than what you want. A long time ago I thought it was what you're suppossed to put it at and I increased all 4 to the maximum and the car was like a tank and it felt like any bump I ran over was going to lead to an explosion. I quickly realized this can't be right and researched my stupidity.

It is weird though that the lower the profile it seems the higher the recommended psi. I've never heard of a recommended psi as high as 35 until these 19s.

If you drive on bad streets? Then keeping the tire psi higher will
protect the rim for any damage. Unless you fall into a BIG pothole that
is.

I run my 19's at 38 to be safe

Tire pressure...............

The guy that installed my Volks wanted to put 40 PSI
and I told him it was a little high. After driving it
less than a mile I was taking 3 lbs out and keep them
at 37........40 is just way to harsh (like rock hard)

A rule of thumb is to go with 80% of the max pressure rating on the tire. If it says max pressure = 45psi then ... (80% of 45 = 36 psi). Add or remove pressure until you find the desired comfort / fuel economy.

Ideally, you should contact the tire manufacturer to see what they recommend on your particular application.

Good luck.
