2003 G35 Sedan: Missing Coolant - Overheating

Hi,

I have a 2003 G35 Sedan.

For the last 6 months, I have been filling coolant into my car. I would be doing a little coolant every 2-3 days. (i would say 3-5 shot glass..alcohol shot glass ...) If i drive the car hard, i would have to fill it once a day. Also, when i am stuck in traffic, temperature gauge would rise close to H but comes down & rise back & comes down. Temperature gauge will come down to normal when the car is moving. Coolant is missing when that happen. The only problem is I do not know where it is going.

I have check for bad gasket & it doesn't appear to be the problem. My car drives fine. I looked at all the hoses connected to the radiator & there doesn't appear to be a leak.

My guess right now is potential water pump, thermostat(doubt it), etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ive have a 03 coupe and had same problem had a crack in the plastic on radiator alot of people have had to replace there due to the plastic cracking. Do you get puddle under car or see any liquid on radiator?

when my radiator crack i didnt have puddle under car either really cause takes a bit to build pressure i just noticed some dried radiator fluid on one spot on the radiator couldnt find the crack. have you filled it up and let it run till it warms up and builds pressure and try see if you see anything. ive heard off freeze plugs getting corrosive and leaking. But if your not seeing anything =( could be a head gasket.

Update..

Update..

Symptom: Coolant is missing (i would say 3-5 shot glass..alcohol shot glass ...) . I would need to fill every 2-3 days. If the car is idiling or in traffic, the coolant would drip more & temperature gauge goes close to the H but goes back to normal if the car is moving (no traffic or idiling)

I have not found out where the leaking is coming from until today when i replace my starter. So i am able to see the coolant in the spot but do not know where exactly the leak is coming from. Does anyone have any idea?

Radiator, Water Pump, or Radiator is eliminated since they are in the front & leak is coming from back of the engine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

looks like it could be leaking from the heater hose, if not it could be the hoses behind the engine... there's a fudge load of hoses on the engine towards the rear...

call me if anything perhaps i can help you more indepth...

I'm willing to bet your fan clutch is gone.

appreciate you leaving your contact info. i replaced the fan clutch when i first bought the car about 3-4 yrs ago.

heater hose is a possibility but when i was looking for the hose in the area when changing my starter, i could not see any hose that was wet or leaking. i probably do not know where the heater hose is located at. i know there are 2 but do not know the location.

thanks again.

I have an 03 sedan with the SAME exact issue... Some mechanics told me that it could be from some gasket leading to the heater coil.

I went the cheap route (not recommended) and bout one of those "Stop Leak" bottles at Pep boys...and dumped it into the radiator...supposed to seal cracks, and leaks in gaskets. So far so good...my coolant level has stayed the same.

Update..

ok. so i finally got fed up w/ refilling coolant on a daily basis because i ran into a few overheating session so i been refilling coolant on a daily basis as i drive my car.

i decided to take it to a mechanic. it turns out the leak was toward the back of the engine on a pipe. it was a bad gasket. i end up replacing the gasket & O ring & valve.

the part cost about $50 at the dealer but labor was $200. it has been 2-3 days & coolant level appears to be at normal level.

there was some hose that i wanted to replace but they didn't have it at dealer & needed to be ordered.

hope this will help someone. thanks again for all your input. good luck.
