souch coast plaza in costa mesa, 3rd st promenade/santa monica pier...there are a lot of nice restaurants with a great view in laguna beach or newport. the OC fair is also going on right now - not sure if you're into carnivals, but i figured i'd throw it in there anyways

There are shops on Robertson right by the Beverly Center.

In terms of shopping, south coast is your best bet. Fashion island and irvine spectrum are both outdoors which is nice, but should also be taken into account with the heat. The spectrum does offer more food choices as far as I know.

it depends on what you're looking for. south coast plaza is an indoor mall with a lot of department stores and very upscale boutiques. irvine spectrum is outdoors and has a movie theater, a lot of restaurants/bars and stores.

the OC fair is at the fairgrounds in costa mesa - www.ocfair.com

I feel so poor going to south coast. hahaha! very nice, yet very pricey. a lot of stores you don't normally see in other malls. Spectrum is nice. has a big ferris wheel you can take your girl on.

Take her to the Getty Center. You'll be coming in her mouth before you get back on Sepulveda.
