Do you have the iso thermal spacer also? Let me know so that I can bring my 10mm wrench, pliers and loctite.

Make sure he knows you're talking about spacer only... because he originally said MREV and spacer.

I agree - it would be great to see before and after at the track... There should be enough of us there to get it done pretty quickly between runs.

Wait! I have a better idea! Derek, you do the spacer install and I'll race your turbo’d G Until you're done

Dsskyline,

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it.

But I have had a change of plans, and will not be installing the spacer+mrev2 for another month or so.

Let me take advantage of this subject and ask you a question regarding my 5/16 Iso thermal spacer.

Is the coolant control valve included in the iso thermal spacer necessary to install? I plan on installing everything included in the Iso thermal spacer package, but i'm not completely sure if the coolant control valve is necessary.

Are you asking if it will work without the valve or if the valve has benefits?... The answer to both is yes. The spacer is just an aluminum spacer for more air flow... the Iso Thermal part is an Aramid gasket that goes between the lower collector and intake manifold to reduce heat transfer to the plenum. The coolant control valve is an additional part that can cut off the coolant to the throttle body - thereby helping keep plenum temps lower.

I did some plenum temp readings with Tony’s beta test version and I can tell you for a fact that the plenum is cooler with the gasket and valve (see attachment). Currently I am running with the valve open because we had a spell of real low temps a while back and I just haven’t closed it again yet... is there a difference? I'm not sure. I think so but it could be placebo. The plenum IS hotter to the touch though with the valve open.

So in summary it you can run the spacer with Iso Thermal gasket only - if that's what you choose, but the valve will help keep the plenum cooler.

Are you concerned about cutting the hose? Is that why you are asking?

I'll probably make it out to watch but no runs for me this event. Sucks the next date if I'm reading right is June 30th.

Be sure to read the rules guys. http://www.californiaspeedway.com/dragwayrules/ One that has been an issue in the past is shorts, drivers must wear pants.

Exactly.

The spacer installation seems pretty straight forward, but the cutting of the hose seems to worry me a little.

There's one thing that confuses me though (the underlined part of your quote)

How does cutting off the coolant via coolant control valve help the plenum become cooler? That seems a bit ironic and contradictive to me.

Hah, sorry for all the questions; I just never really paid any attention on how the coolant control valve works.

Thanks for all the help.

***Preface... coolant (contrary to the word) is actually hot as it enters the throttle body. ***

The coolant flow that you are altering is the flow to the throttle body (where your plenum connects)... It is designed to keep the throttle body from freezing in colder climates... the hot coolant keeps the throttle body thawed so to speak but in doing so adds heat to your plenum...

We rarely see temps here that would cause the throttle body to freeze so bypassing this flow doesn't hurt. The valve will end up under your intake tube and won’t be obviously visible. As far as permanently altering your vehicle, you could always replace the full-length hose down the line is you wanted to go back entirely stock. BTW, you can open and close the valve so you are not permanently cutting off the coolant to the throttle body.

I MIGHT be bringing another G along.

He's giving me an answer this Monday.

Either way, I doubt he'll wake up that early

Skate... what did you decide on the coolant valve? Did my explanation help (or even make sense)?...

I was - till I realized how early we need to wake up...

A couple cups of coffee and a Monster energy drink will do the trick, I'll be fine.

Your explanation made perfect sense.

As of now, I think I might just skip the CCV for now. Ill install it when I have nothing else to mod

Although I have my spacer with me, I might not be getting the Mrev2 for another month. I'll be installing both at the same time to ease off the trouble of doing them seperately.

Thanks!

I thought we had already agreed on 6?

If so, I might be leaving my house at around 5:20. With so little traffic, I might use it to my advantage.

I think it would be a good idea to meet up right before the track to stay together as a group.
