Brake Job
Brake Job
I live on the west side of Houston and would like to know if anyone can recommend a good shop to get a brake job at. I have a 2003 G35 6mt with 38000 miles and the Brembo brake setup. An Infiniti dealer has quoted me approximately $675 to turn the rotors and install new pads and I was hoping to get it done for less. I do mostly city driving, so I don't need the most expensive pads around.
if the infiniti dealer told you that they would turn your brembo rotors for you call Brembo and tell them... They will get a sharp pr!ck in their an^s.... do not let them rotate your rotors.. ill find you links for great pads shipped for under $200...

from an excellent EBay seller. HPS is the way to go. Make sure you use squeal reducer if you DIY which I would recommend bc than the parts is the only cost. If you search the DIY section you will find exactly how to do it. It is very very easy to do.

I'm not looking to order pads on line, I'm looking for a reputable shop that will do the job for me. Are you saying Brembo does not recommend turning their rotors before installing new pads, that would really surprise me.

I don't see how. If they have enough material on them all you are doing is smoothing it out again on a lathe. Maybe the slotted ones are different but I have never heard of that.
Too late anyways, I got them done and they work fine.

Surprise! I talked to many shops and Dealers about it and they all highly recommended not doing anything to them. The dealers said they would refuse to touch them unless they were replacing them. Call up Brembo if you have doubts. As for shops.. Depends on the shop, research their suggestions first or you may regret it later

The reason they do not suggest turning cutting/refinishing them is because they become highly prone to cracking etc. I guess it'll be a short-time solution if that is the case

From what I know, they go by the outside rim of the rotor as a wear indicator. It if it is at or below this rim, the rotor needs replacing. If it is above, I am not sure how many 1000ths of an inch it is supposed to be above the indicator. If there are no deep grooves and it is just a quick smoothing for the new pads then it should leave plenty above the rim to keep using them.
Changing brake pads is something really easy to do. You only need a jack, some jack stands and simple hand tools. I reccomend saving the money and doing them yourself. There should a good DIY somewhere on this forum to help you out. Also, are you sure you need your rotors resurfaced?
