DFW neighborhoods

Hey DFW g35 drivers,
I am seriously contemplating moving into the DFW area and would like your opinions on the area's better neighborhoods for a family with two toddlers. I have heard good things about plano as far as the schools but many think it is way too crowded. Any opinions.

Thanks
LF

I used to live in the Valley Ranch area in Irving, just north of the 635. Nice area....

Re: DFW neighborhoods

Good suggestion on the Valley Ranch/Coppell area. It is centrally located for great access to the entire metroplex, and having our great airport so accessible is another plus.

Do you have a job here yet? I have never considered this when choosing where to live (I have been in the same house for 21 years), but I think it is a good idea: Choose a home east of where you work. If your normal work shift is during the day, you have the sun at your back both ways to and from work.

I recommend the Plano area too, but if you want to spend a little more money i think Highland Park is a great area/location. Schools are great and there is a better sense of community.

Re: DFW neighborhoods

I just moved from Plano into Dallas. Plano is a really nice area, and so is Frisco (just north of Plano). I wouldn't say Plano's any more crowded than anywhere else in Dallas. The only places that aren't gonna be crowded are the much smaller towns on the outskirts of the city (like Prosper, etc.). Also, you might wanna check out Oakcliff (haha just kidding)

Re: DFW neighborhoods

I would seriously consider Fort Worth, depending on work location. Our neighborhood is historic and full of families with toddlers (11 0n our block). Less traffic great things close by to take the little ones to.

Re: DFW neighborhoods

Well everyone has had their say, so I thought I would put in a good word for Arlington. Almost perfectly in between Dallas and Ft. Worth, so you can easily enjoy both cities. Northern Arlington has plenty of good schools and quiet neighborhoods. Lots of new houses going up in this area as well.

I'll put a word in for Grapevine/Coleyville. A buddy of mine lives there. Nice main street, great schools.

Re: DFW neighborhoods

I live in Plano, it is a nice area, although slightly more expensive than some other areas. Good schools, lots of kids. I agree, anywhere in DFW is crowded.

I am currently looking to move and would like to stay in Plano or Frisco, although at times I would like to be closer to Downtown Dallas, I just do not think it is worth it....

Re: DFW neighborhoods

hey! i've lived in oak cliff all my life (22 years) and i know it has a bad reputation but some parts are actually pretty nice. have you checked out the kessler park area? it's right by the stephen's park golf course and it's a very nice neighborhood minutes away from downtown. as for schools, i went to the talented and gifted magnet high school at the townview magnet center and it's a wonderful school with great dedicated teachers. the houses are nice, old, and well built with big yards. i work in richardson and it's pretty nice as well, i hear it has a really good school district. it's big on telecommunications and the home of University of Texas at Dallas which is an excellent school for computer science.

Jran,
I have lived in Frisco for 9 years, still a great city to raise a family.

Re: DFW neighborhoods

I've lived in Garland, Richardson, Dallas and Plano most of my life. My father lives in Frisco which has extremely nice neighborhoods like Starwood and such. Plano schools are excellent, but some of them are filled with spoiled stuck-ups. Anyhow, in my opinion Plano is the way to go for a family. Its close to everything, but the commute to Dallas in the mornings sucks most of the time. Happy hunting!
