Florida Road Trip tomorrow

Well folks,

Nissan has our Maxima in the shop for several days to figure out why the CEL
keeps turning on. We have spent close to $1500 on various work to resolve
this problem. The light came on again Tuesday. We were planning on taking the Max
on our annual pilgrimage to Destin, a 9 hour drive. The Maxima is
bigger and more comfortable on a long trip than the G35. So Nissan tells me
they want to keep the car for several days to analyze the problem. I told
them that was OK, I will just drive my Infiniti G35 to Florida. God I hope that
damn seat control doesn't drive me crazy! I will add about 1500 more miles to
my odometer. But I will have lots of fun driving I10

Cato, hope you and your bride have a safe and pleasant trip.

Question: Did you consider asking for a free rental car from the dealership as they try to figure out this problem? I am almost sure that had I been in the same situation, the Round Rock dealership would've given me a free rental. With any service or repair that takes more than a few hours or costs more than $200, they have always offered me a free rental. It can't hurt to ask. If you have spent quite a bit of money (not to mention all the time) with them and they still haven't fixed the problem, it is only reasonable for you to ask for a free rental while they take their pretty time trying to figure out what they should've figured out by now. Why should you have to put miles on another car when they should've already fixed the car you wanted to put miles on to? Can't hurt to ask, you know. Would help you keep miles off of your G35. Just a thought.

John,

Yeah, these guys started giving us free rental cars after the first $1000.
In addition, since the Max has been in their shop so much recently, they are
analyzing the issue cost free. The advisor on the phone to me yesterday:
"Since you are such a good customer, we are not going to charge you
anything for the 5 hours of diagonsis. It will take several days to put all the
wireing back" Me: "So how much will THAT cost me?" Advisor: "Nothing!"
These guys have egg on their face, they can't figure out what is wrong.
Sigh......................................

Well, it sounds like they are trying to be reasonable and solve this problem. Your relationship with the dealership sounds similar to mine: Good!

I still think it wouldn't hurt to ask (if you haven't already); it is a reasonable request since they're the ones who have been taking so long to fix it.

Have a safe trip.
