Removing the engine cover.

I removed the engine cover yesterday but wonder if Infiniti really only installed it for looks. Has anybody been running without it for a long period of time? I'm wondering with the low clearance and thin insulation if it will effect the paint or worse, warp the hood after time. Now that I think about it though the 350's engine cover is much smaller so maybe it is just for looks or the 350's insulation/clearance is different.

Re: Removing the engine cover.

i have had mine off for a long time now. had to take it off when i made up the hood lights. i dont have any problems the hood. there is also a hood liner there to protect the hood. plus if it was for insulation, then all the people crawfords would be havin problems with their hoods in time.

Re: Removing the engine cover.

There's no way in hell that you'll damage the aluminum hood by removing the engine cover. Aluminum doesn't melt until a temp. over 900 degrees farenheit. Your hood NEVER get close to that, even in Iraq. Keep in mind Carbon Fiber doesn't have a problem on cars w/o the engine cover, so why would the aluminum hood.

Remember yesterday at Z-Fest, almost all of the Z's had painted or polished plenums (and no engine covers). Those plenums would trap heat in more than one w/o the paint/polish and you didn't see any problems on the Z's... In fact the only car with any problems was the one with the fiber glass body kit and the angled Ingen exhaust tips.

No worries! Remove it and hang it in the garage!

Re: Removing the engine cover.

I was really thinking about the paint considering the softness of the water based paints being used now. Maybe a space blanket between the insulation and hood, hmm..

Re: Removing the engine cover.

My black paint gets a hell of a lot hotter sitting in the sun with the engine off than it does with the engine running.

Re: Removing the engine cover.

OH NO! WTF!!! The paint on my hood is beginning to COME OFF! What the heck is this POS paint made of anyway! How can this be? I only took the engine cover off about 2 weeks ago.

Now doesn't that sound funny?

Re: Removing the engine cover.

That is funny. Ha Ha.

But not nearly as funny as when you have to tell OI that the mods had nothing to do with it. Ha Ha.

Anyone want to meet somewhere Thursday or Friday after work?

Yeah, I'll meet up Thursday or Friday. I think I owe someone a beer or two for using their name in vain . Dare we do another Bithlo session on Friday night?
