tinting in atlanta
I just got back from Hot Spot. They seemed pretty equal to Custom Sun Control, but about $100 less. Then I went to Custom and asked him why I should spend the extra $100. He seemed to focus on installation quality. The Custom place uses one piece on the back, including in front of the third brake light, trims the tint all the way out to the end of the door, etc. I asked HotSpot about this, but forgot what they said, and forgot to check how the door they were doing looked. Maybe you could relay what you find?
As tints go, Custom uses F1, which is the premium of CPFilms line, with Llumar being the mid-grade. HotSpot uses Diamond, which is the premium of SunGard. And the law is 35 all around. I don't think 35/20 is a legal option.

who said anything bout being legal on the back? :-D What were your impressions between places? I won't be able to make it Custom Sun Control because theyre not open on the weekends. A lot of people recommend both, but I mean you get what you pay for. I think both are good options and have the lifetime warranty, just now its the tint film quality lol. What do you think? I mean hell I've already spent 30k so whats anoth 300 bucks, but the ability to go on a Sat may be the deciding factor for me. let me know what u think.
Tough call. But then again, I always fret over the little stuff, and then figure out later it wasn't worth the worry. If I get time today, I may run back down to HotSpot to see the kind of job they do. Custom definitely seems more professional? They tint in A/C with the garage doors closed, and HotSpot is in a garage with the doors open and the installers much less comfortable. F1 is supposed to have the best warranty. I'm going to review some tint-specific web sites (tintdude.com, plus those linked on HotSpot's web site)...then maybe I can make a decision? Also, some of this decision is what the tint looks like. The Diamond full-metal (highest heat-reduction) looks reflective and silvery, and I don't like that look on my silver car. I want dark charcoal windows....so I'm leaning towards the Diamond "hybrids", which, of course, have some dye in them...so they're gonna fade? (F1 looks a little reflective also) Aaaauuurrrggghhhh! I'm starting to think the extra $100 is worth the potentially reduced worry.
PS: I have definitely decided against HuperOptic....both places have said its a residential film, and doesn't quite look right in a car. Plus its not as dark, its just much more heat-reflective. Its just not the direction I was looking. Thanks to weaksauce, I found the video he referenced in his post (I think) on Huper's site.

right well again taking off a day during the work week to go tint can definitely be the deciding factor. I was thinking for the brillant at Hotspot and whatever Suncoast would have equivalent to that. Well I got my old tint done at some place up off Buford Hwy and they did a pretty darn good job for how much I paid, tint is dye so its faded a bit and gone bluish / purple but its held up and no bubbles. They had the garage doors open etc. Maybe I'll go take a look and we can compare what you think? If I go today and it looks pretty decent and not a bad wait Imay get it done (or schedule an appt next weekend).
yea maybe I can't seem to email you. Shoot me an email - erikill@gmail.com I'm over here in dunwoody so let me know it takes like 20 mins for me to get over there and I'm eating lunch right now.

I met up with shaigh there, we kinda grilled marc the sales guy. I am heading back next weekend to get it done. Guess I will do 35 / 20 or see how it looks in the radiant. I'll take pics and post here when its done.
my first post here. i would recommend custom sun control on cobb pky for the cleanest install of tint. i had my 997S done there after seeing how they did my friends E55. i had my 350Z and a freinds g35 done at hot spot. clearly, custom sun did a much better job. the cuts around the front windows were flawless and exact. hot spot wasnt nearly as nice. the cuts were jagged around the corners. also, hot spot uses some sort of glue and it left residue around the edges. plus they used some sort of heat gun around the edges and cooked some of the headlining on the back glass of the g35. i think at custom there are only 2 guys with a lot of experience that do all the work. at hot spot, they have some young girls that do the cutting and other prep work. id say the extra money is well spent at custom sun. just my opinion as i have had experience with both. oh and btw, they failed to put together the doors properly on my 350z. they stripped a screw. they didnt need to take the doors aprt on the g35.
right I noticed the heat guns when I was there. I mean I agree the Custom sun control place is probably better, however I can't make it there during the week and unfortuantely for me thats a pretty big factor so Hot Spot is who I'm going with. I think if the dealer has been using them they must do a well enough job to stay both in business and attract new customers. I will let everyone know how they do on mine (I'll post pics). Btw what did you do on your Z / your friend's g35 (tint levels) and do you have any pics? Thanks,
I did get my car tinted, 35% all around, I haven't gotten a chance to borrow someones digital camera, but if you wanted to take a look in person I live in Dunwoody. Shaigh also got his done in 35% (I believe) at HotSpot.
Yep, got mine done about two weeks ago. I'm very happy with the quality of the installation. The edges seem perfect, no bubbles, lint, or trimmed or melted trim anywhere. They seemed to take the time to make sure it was done right. I watched as they put one cut piece of film against one of the windows, checked the fit, and threw it away because it wasn't perfect. And I liked that I could watch as it was done, unlike at Custom Sun Control. Of course, this means you see just how much soapy water is used, which can be a little disturbing for someone as **** as me, but I doubt it would be any different anywhere else. My only complaint is the color of the tint. I chose the Radiant, but it turned out to be a bit more bronze than I had hoped, which doesn't quite look right against my silver car. I do like that it was one of the "hybrid" tints, so it has more heat-reflection than a regular dyed film, but doesn't have a mirror-like finish that I saw in the full metal tints. I also recommend Diamond's extended warranty. Cheap insurance ($35) against scratches. Like erikill, I'll attempt to take some pics, but can't guarantee anything yet.
I'm new to teh ATL area and I'm looking for a Huper Optik dealer as well. I live south of the city in hampton. There are quite a few places around here that carry lumar or sungaurd, and pretty reasonable as well (160$ish lifetime warrantee). I'm not going to pay $400 for a tint job either....lol...
Is the Huper worth it for heat rejection? I've got black leather, and I'm dreading the heat that is coming soon.....
