Replacing engine
#16
gtr is almost twice the price of my car now..
but it sure would be nice~.. hehe
im thinking vette however.. get a used one for like low 40k..
EK.. yeah that was probably mine..
can anyone confirm the loss of power between 1k-3k rpm?..
the engine feels very muffled.. like the air isnt going in and out really well...
i went to the dealer today and requested that they tell me exactly wats different with this engine.. its not only a mystery but its MY car.. i have a right to know!.. Atleast if i know, i know wat to mod to fix the problem.. and maybe areas of the engine NOT to touch because of the fix...
anyone?

Feels weaker cuz all your mods not back on your new VQ.
Break-in period done Y/N...maybe better after break-in (she loosens up a little)
07 sedan lighter than coupe and is the VQ35HR.
My understanding is the Ver2 Rev-up has different pistons and rings.
Slight confusion on another thread in part number the vers2 is. Ends in 9 or ends in 1.
Which number yours end with.
Thanx.

well.. when i took off the cats and headers.. i regained alot of torque between 1-4k. and then lost torque after that.
the stillen exhaust is really good standalone.
umm.. im breakin in the engine... thats for sure!
and wow i didnt know the sedan was lighter than our coupe.. thats amazing if it is..
if the pistions and rings are stronger.. doesnt that make it better for FI applications? assuming its stronger? hehe

Couldn't believe the sedan lighter too, but in the specs it is. Still can't figure how that could be.
Dont know if its stronger piston/rings, maybe revised better word, but know someone in your region that got a Vers2rev-up and went FI (SC) with no VQ issues.
Any confirmation on your VQ part # would be great.

That was before they started replacing with vers2 hand built ones currently.
Who's to know if they didn't also do that on these Vers2's. Good point, forgot about that possibility.

06cpv, im not sure where to find my engine #..
Tony, THanks for the input!!!
RRG, my oil problems started within my 3rd oil change. I started switching brands from semi synth castrol, to full synth, to full synth mobil1. mobil1 full synth did the best for me.. it burned about 1-1.5qts every 1k miles.
david choi, just weigh the options.. do you want to keep adding oil or can you sacrifice some HP? the choice is yours! =p

well the thing is. oil seems like its going out thru my exhaust... my back bumper is covered with black sh*t all over.. i'm pretty sure oil is collecting into my lower collector and burning thru my exhaust. little oil is ok to have in lower collector but too much is not a good thing. when i get my new engine and see the oil consumption has improved, i'll be putting in oil pan spacer and oil catch can for SURE. i know VQ will always burn oil but not 2 qts every 700-1000 miles..
with this rate of oil consumption..adding oil is not an option.. i would sacrafice few hp for a new engine..(crossing my finger).
also i think using non synth. oil for about first 3000 miles might help too.. IMO. but thats just me...
