well.. I know in Cali they are really hard on cars without a cat.. i hope you are prepare for the fine.. cos last time i heard from my friend in Orange County the fine for what they call the straight pipe is close to 1k plus you have to get everything inspected after you put everything back... I have Vortech SC with plenum spacer and used to have the stillen test pipe man do i love that.. cos It almost sounds like a Lambo.. very exotic sound.. but I can't stand taking the risk of get pull over for that fine.. so I put it back the stock cat back.. and yes to answer the question to the smog.. I just did the smog check at a gas station and it passed me with the spacer and SC in it.. and no... i didn't pay extra to the mechanic to pass me! i hope this info help.. and by the way.. where is a meet around OC? i can't seem to find one around? anyone have any ideas?

Kevin

I have heard of $1500... not sure what's accurate or not. Another good reason I need to get my car slammed [enough to obscure a cops view if he decides to check]

.

Can't lower it too much. Having it too low is also illegal.
24008. It is unlawful to operate any passenger vehicle, or commercial vehicle under 6,000 pounds, which has been modified from the original design so that any portion of the vehicle, other than the wheels, has less clearance from the surface of a level roadway than the clearance between the roadway and the lowermost portion of any rim of any wheel in contact with the roadway.

Plus they have those little mirrors on telescoping antennas to look under the cars... so it really doesn't matter how low you are, they can still check it.

Henry, I've been pulled over twice with my FI 300 cell HFC's now - not FOR having my HFCs, but I had them on while being pulled over.

One time for speeding, the other time for no front plate, tinted rear place, tinted windows, and exhaust. Neither of the two times did the cop mention me "the smell" or even suspect I had tampered with my stock cats.

What code did you get written for on the two exhaust tickets?

The loud exhaust is non-corrective and you just pay the fine. It is very subjective and the officer just has to say he "thought" it sounder louder than normal. Actually, you are not supposed to exceed 95db, but then again if you argue that you will get smacked with the modified exhaust upon inspection.

The modified / no cat is the expensive one.

Well the first ticket was code: CVC27151 MODIFIED EXHAUST and it says correctable

Second code was: 27156 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REMOVED and it says correctable

Im not sure what that means. I was planning on going to the smog check and ask them what i should do...Good thing is i get to get both signed off at once. There goes my paycheck

they're merely fix it tickets then. get them corrected (aka get it fixed), have the ticket signed off, pay the transaction fee, and you should be done. read the back of the ticket. it gives you instructions for "correctable" violations.

Well, I didn't think a cat-delete violation would be a correctable violation. I thought this was a more serious violation.. On your ticket, does it have "infraction" checked off next to the violation description? I figured you'd have to pay a hefty fine AND get it corrected.

If your ticket is a correctable infraction, then you should be able to just follow the directions on the back of the ticket...
