Got stopped for jaywalking

I guess I'm not in Kansas anymore.

I was walking to work this morning and running a little bit late. I stopped at a light and waited for it to change. When it did, I completely disregared a turn light. Lo and behold, the first car that was turning was a WeHo Sheriff. He nearly runs me over on the sidewalk, then aggressively asks for my ID. Afterwards, forces me to the hood of his car. He runs my NY drivers license and the following exchange occurs:

Cop: Do you do that all the time in NY?
Me: Yeah
Cop: You know if a car hits you, they sue you for the damage to the car?
Me: In NY, the saying is "Hit me, I need the money"
Cop: Well, don't do it here. No ticket today unless you have $75 burning a hole in your pocket.
Me: Thanks. Have a nice day.

Ugh, this is gonna be such an adjustment.

Sorry... but serves you right. I come across jaywalkers all the time and it pisses me off to no end because of the traffic they create.

Drivers obey the rules of traffic. Pedestrians should do the same.

Yeah...I kept hearing that the west coast was laid back, but they're sure uptight about their driving laws.

the no jaywalking thing is one of the biggest adjustments you have to make when you move from the east coast. it really shouldn't be a big deal if there is no traffic coming, but you never know if you're going to run into a cop who wants to make a point.

I know what you mean... I was in such shock when I went back. In Cali, we at least tap the brake a bit for the people to cross. But in China... they would seriously freaking run your *** over! They have no courtesy of any sort yet there's no road rage at all... unlike Cali...

Milwaukee is like that. No one crosses the street if the sign says Don't Walk. Not a car in sight and cold people standing on the curb waiting..... (and watching visitors from NY crossing)

Seriously!! Here in the states, pedestrians always have the right of way. In China, it's the total opposite. Surprisingly enough I never saw a single pedestrian or bicyclist get hit.
