Help with an Insurance claim
Long story made short... I noticed this morning that my car had been hit in the rear. The rear bumper & rear-left fender are damaged.
I'm guessing this must have happened last night while I was at work. My works parking lot isn't a place where I like leaving my car at, but obviously have no choice.
My question is, if I do an insurance claim for this, will this be considered an at-fault accident? And therefore, be on my record which will consequently raise my premium?
Technically, I am not "at fault" since I was nowhere near the car when this happened nor did I witness anything. But im just a little worried as to what my insurance will decide to do (State Farm).
Damages look like they're in the $2,000-$3,000 dollar range, so I definately don't plan on doing any of the repairs myself.
It is VERY clear from the damage that there was absolutely no way that I had caused the damage. It was hit in a direction that was impossible to be made by the owner/driver of the car.
Thanks in advance for anyone with info

Hey Henry, sorry to hear about the accident.
Just make a police report and make sure to give that to your ins. co. Or go down to your local P.D.
Either way, like Glex25 said it should fall under the Comprehensive coverage and your rates shouldn't take a hike.
And you're gonna have to cough up the deductible. Good luck brotha.

Thanks everyone.
Wally, do you really think a police report is recommended? I didn't even notice the hit until the next day. I know that sounds very stupid, but since my car is black, and it was dark, along with the fact that after work I was tired as hell, I never noticed it until I walked out of my house this morning. (I was in disbelief).
I think our parking lot is private property too.
The hit isn't that big. I can drive the car around without any problems. But the hit was in between the rear bumper and the left fender. So it's definitely going to cost at least 2k to repair.

Get a police report.
It looks better with the auto insurance company and just overall helps things to get documented properly; they'll have another official written source of information (police report) to base their case on top of and refer to, which is what I've been told by autoclub adjuster a few years ago when someone hit and ran my truck...
Just make sure you make it clear that you know it happened there at work.

Alright, so I just finished speaking with a police officer down at the Burbank Police Station. He stated there was no reason for a police report for two reasons. First, he said it was on private property. Second, he stated I had no suspect.
He told me to just let my insurance take care of it.
I'll do the insurance claim tommorow morning asap. Hopefully everything goes as smoothly as it should. Though, I will have to dish out $500 bucks for something I didn't even witness

ya I hate those fu@Kin hit and runs. I had one on my passenger side fender the same day I drove 200 miles to pick up my wife's 335i. Lucky it was cheaper to paid out of pocket than go through insurance. But in your case, all u have to do is pay your deductibles and u're done. Your insurance wont go up bc they will take pix and they can determine if it was really a hit n run or not. GL
