I would like to powder coat my te-37s but had a few questions.

1. Where should I take them and how much for 19's?

2. Do I need to dismount the tires?

3. What is the turn around time?

Not sure the entire truth behind it, but i heard powder coating forged wheels is not always the best idea. The baking process of powdercoating would weaken the forge wheel.

The thing I wasn't aware of is Volk actually paints their forged wheels anyways. You may want to go that route. That's what i decided to do for my CE28s. They're actually at the shop right now getting painted. I would highly recommend painting them instead.

I asked many wheel places before i decided to go with Mag Masters. All the shops told me that its a myth that paint does not hold up. It actually does really well. Obviously the powdercoating process is a bit better, but painting them professionally holds up as well. + you get more choices in colors.

To answer your questions

1) I recommend Mag Masters in Santa Ana, CA. Cost me $430 out the door, mounted and balanced.

2) They can dismount for you and remount for free. Balancing will be extra.

3) I dropped my off on Saturday 1/10. They said I can pick them up tomorrow 1/20. Pretty much a little bit more than a full week.

Hmm, I can't tell if they are painted or powdercoated. I have hear the same thing about forged wheels. When i had the tires changed, they were gold on the inside indicating that the wheels have been either powder coated or painted.

 

You said they were gold in the inside. What color are they now?

its kind of hard to tell from the human eye. Looks like the previous owner went cheap and only painted the outside. could be either... if you do paint or powdercoat.. do the entire wheel

^+1 Powdercoating is stronger than paint, less prone to scuffs and what not, and def. get the whole wheel done.

The only time I've seen a problem with powdercoating was is on a batch of 350z wheels that cracked during the process. Those wheels were cast wheels and not forged. I don't think the information is correct on powdercoating forged wheels.

I powdercoated my forged ray's wheels and they've held up great in the past year. Regardless of what the personal opinon is on painting wheels....powdercoating will awlays hold up better than a 3 stage paint job. With that said....I got mine powdercoated for $65 a wheel at TWS (The wheel supply) in walnut. Got my lip polished there too (at an extra charge). They do good work. I believe if you want them to dismount and remount the tires it's a $20 extra fee or something; they do rebalance the wheels as well. LMK if you want their info.

 

don't always believe what you hear. One person in this thread gave you that info.....might I add that he's biased since he decided to paint his wheels for a lot more than what powdercoaters would charge.

many members on this board have powdercoated forged wheels with 0 problems.....

Testimonials are good. I think it just depends on what you are realy going to use the wheels for. If you ever plan to track your car with those wheels. I would not risk it. If its daily.. then powdercoat them. I personally wouldn't want to risk my volks going bad... Would you? Plus as I mentioned. Volk paints their wheels from the factory anyways... They hold up well.

 

That is true. But compare costs of replacing a rim if gone bad. OEM Rays vs a te37... Like I said testmonials are good, but Volks arent cheap. My best suggestion, Go to the wheel places and ask them. They are the professionals... They'll give you their honest opinion.

 

Anodizing is not the same as painting... are you sure about the whole painting thing?
