Farewell 97.1 FM Talk

Not sure how many people here are fans, but today is a sad day in SoCal for 97.1 listeners. It was the last live broadcast of the Adam Carolla, Frosty Heidi and Frank, and the Tom Leykis show. I've been listening to some of these shows (specifically Tom Leykis) since I was 12 years old (I'm currently 23) and it's going to be a strange feeling when I'm in my car and not being able to listen to FHF and Leykis. I hope they resurface on another station soon.

No joke. Just heard the final broadcast of FHF, with Frank talking $hit about how it was Tom's fault that 97.1 went down the crapper. Also listened to Tom's final broadcast until he switched it over to the new format. It was a good 13 years, and they will be missed.

I agree. Tom Leykis pretty much carried the station since Howards departure.

The station didn't get boughtout, it's still owned by CBS. Some people think/blame the demise of 97.1, as a FM talk format, on Leykis (due to Frank's accusations during the last broadcast of FHF) because he refused to take a pay cut. The simple truth is, CBS felt that changing to a "top 40" format would appeal to a wider demographic (women and children), therefore generating more ad revenue. Let's not forget the fact that it cost CBS a lot of money hiring talents such as Leykis, Carolla, etc. It's much cheaper playing the same music over and over then having talent and support staff. Although 97.1 FM Talk had a few number 1 shows, mainly in the male demographic ages 18-54, they couldn't generate enough ad revenue to continue with that format (especially in this current economic state where companies are cutting back on advertising expenses). It is very unfortunate that it had to come down to this, and it is a real eye opener of how bad our economy is. I'm sure Leykis and FHF will show up sometime in the future on another frequency, but it is uncertain when that will happen.
