depending where you are staying i'd start making dinner reservations at various places and get on the guest list for hollywood clubs.
Or if u prefer an easier going way just pop by hermosa or something.
If it was me i'd go the easier way:
1. santa monica beach + 3rd street promenade - day/ night 1
2. San gabriel Valley - get some dim sum at the ocean star or NBC seafood, then at night hit up downtown la's Elevate/ Takumi bar for a breathtaking view
3. hit up griffith park and the observatory and the getty art museum
my 2 cents do in any order

I think you'll find that LA isn't as sexy as it's portrayed in the movies. It's actually a pretty "typical" place with just lots of people. It's actually quite dirty and depressed in the more central area. Over my years of traveling, I've realized most every metro area is pretty much the same. As for LA traffic, it's bad, but I've driven in worse. It's better than what I faced in Atlanta and Chicago. The highways are fairly packed, but the main roads are pretty normal. Like any metro area, try to avoid driving between 4pm and 630pm. I think the most enjoyable thing I've done in LA is simply drive around and take note of areas where movies were filmed. Downtown LA is DEAD at night. I drove the street where the shoot-out in Heat was filmed and got all excited
On thing about the LA area, they've got incredibly sweet mountain/coastal roads.
