Mira Mesa is a nice and (relatively) inexpensive area.

Eastlake and Otay Ranch. Very family friendly neighborhoods.

Yeah I'm also looking for a new house too. Thinking of the Poway, Rancho Pen, Scripps area.

New house = less mods. Damn...

If you are young, Mission Valley/ Fashion Valley is the best. If you are more mature, then La Jolla or north county, hands down. Mira Mesa is a nice suburb, but mostly for military people.
