If you rather take the risk, than go for it. Personally, I won't be fighting a ticket anymore unless I am not eligible for traffic school..
I fought a ticket I had received in January through TBD for "unsafe lane charge" that alleged that I had cut someone off in an unsafe fashion. I was driving my Camry when I received the ticket and really I did not even make the guy BRAKE to call it unsafe.
Fought the ticket and had it extended until July.. Finally received a verdict that I was found guilty.. Hmmm right than I was pretty scared because my insurance rates were already high because of my age. I filed for a new trial, this time in person. My plan was to beg to the judge to give me traffic school OR win by the cop not showing up. Ended up finding out I could just get traffic school through the court clerk and ended up doing it. 2 months after that my insurance rates went up randomly. Apparently my ticket had been reported immediately upon the guilty verdict, and they did not clear it until about a month later. I had already paid an extra $300+ by now and finally got it removed just last week.
All in all it's costed me from the second I decided to fight it.. and in the end I still paid for the ticket... and traffic school.. plus the extra insurance rates..
