Anyone already paid off their car? What do you do when the bank sends you the new title?
You should get a Certificate of Title (pink slip) mailed to you within 6 weeks or so after your last payment. It should just have vehicle and owner information, no lien holder on it. Put it in a safe deposit box or other secure place.

If it does list a lien holder it will be signed off by them proving you now own the car. We had that happen recently on our business trucks we paid off early. They were leased and I think that had something to do with it.
I just took it to DMV and requested a new certificate. They charge transfer fees and new certificate fees. I don't know what it is for a car, we had some sales tax issues they stuck us with so it was a couple hundred for 3 trucks.

If they did it correctly you shouldn't have to do anything. If the registration still has a lien holder I would just leave it until next renewal.

Congratulations on paying it off, quite an accomplishment.

$315 for an 04 sedan - part of that is for special plates (personalized + coastal commission)

CA is full of retarded legislators that are completely raping residents and businesses. They are really phucking **** up bad.

The Turdinator promised this stuff wouldn't happen if elected governor - why would people trust a foreign actor?

nope. Mine's been paid off for over 4 yrs... it's based on car's value
(supposedly)... in our case (CA) it's based on how broke the state is because of the idiots running it.
