Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

That's looks fun! I wanna do that! I know it's ride with a pro driver, but did you get to drive any cars? Was it a one time deal?

Thanks for sharing

Where did you hear about this thing from?? I have a buddy who did something like that in a Bush car a few months ago...they let him take a couple of hot laps though...=)

Marlboro...I was at The Highlands one night and there was this person going around asking for your name and address to get a free lighter from Marlboro about a year ago...they have been sending me free stuff ever since. I got about 3 laps/track...it was GOOD!

Looks very nice. Did you do skid pad too, the entire road course, a portion of the banked oval?

Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

I rode all three courses completely - 1. professional road, 2. banked oval and 3.auto cross course. I was in a Panoz GTS 330hp, IROC stock car 450 hp, and mustang coupe (drifting). It was soooo much FUN!

Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

Stephanie, you definitely got to ride some serious iron. That Panoz is a barrel of fun on a road course. I would imagine that taking the chicanes and then that diminishing radius hairpin (turns 9 and 10) in a Panoz was just out of this world roller coaster thrills. You probably hit the 7/8 chicane at 110, then hauled it down to 30-35 for the hairpin, then hammered it back up to 110+ down the middle straight on the infield heading west, into the two double turns. Yikes indeed.

At what speed did you take the banked oval in the IROC car? Going down the front straight, which is banked at eleven degrees, I could get my G up to 150mph, but then backed it off to 135 for the fourteen degree banked oval at turns one and two. That frankly was still faster than I felt comfortable, though the car was just fine. Going straight line is one thing, but when you hit that big turn at speed and feel the g force and take a little peekaboo at the wall.....it is a whole nother ball game.

I am JEALOUS. And, obviously, not proud. Glad you had a super time.

Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

Why aren't you proud?? I'm DEFINITELY proud of myself. And, JEALOUS, wow - thats bad :-(

The banked oval - top speed was 140mph...he kept it down. The prof. drivers kept their speeds 1/2 of what they usually go. I guess it was a liabilitity issue.

You're a liability issue

Re: California Speedway "Rode w/ a ProRace Car Driver"

"The prof. drivers kept their speeds 1/2 of what they usually go."

Well..........Almost. I doubt that can be taken at more than 200mph in any kind of vehicle, but there is probably a NASCAR site that would have the exact lap speed record and recorded speeds for turns 1 and 2 at Fontana.

I have seen Doug Hayashi's video racing (Pulp Racing) with Luc and Dave where they all went into it together at 150mph, and that is really zipping along.

Now that you have felt the speed, has it given you the need?
I know that even as cautious as one can be, once you get out there and do it...it is hard to stay away. I just have to get back out. New tires came this week for the racing wheels, and getting the new dyno tune Thursday for more hp. Then up to Buttonwillow with Clint on Oct 3rd. Bring your G up and run it. I have an extra helmet for you if you want to borrow it.

The right side is fine. The left side is where the adrenaline really starts to kick in. Get in the proper seat and try it.
