Going to SoCal next month for vacation! Things to do / places to see, etc
I'll be in the LA for a few days and then San Diego area for a few days. I wanted to ask you guys what are some food spots that I can't leave without trying? I saw the food thread sticky, but there were a ton and I am only out there for a week. I already know I'm going to try In & Out for sure.
Also, what beaches do you recommend visiting/things to do/clubs or bars to go to? I'll be out there with the lady, so looking to have a good time at good local spots.
In addition, are there any 'ghetto' areas I should avoid? This is my first time in California so anything helps! I'm sure I'll have more questions as this thread continues.
Thx guys!

Yeah In-n-out Fo sho...
In LA there is the Griffith Observatory, Santa Monica Pier, the list goes on. Also there is Disneyland in Orange County. As far as San Diego you could check out the Gas Lamp District which has numerous places to eat and drink. Also the San Diego zoo is a good place to check out..Others will chime in as far as things to do and see.

Venice Beach for the weird factor
Hermosa and Huntington Beach for the party scene
Stay away from east LA,Compton, South Central and California City(major weirdo lives out there..the kind that use Gag ***** and tie people in their basements)
King Taco & In & Out are Socal exclusives...must try

Check out the beach
Visit the pier
Shop at 3rd street promenade
Movies/Dinner at 3rd street are a good idea
Ten...Hit up Hollywood at night. You can't go wrong!

San Diego Food you have to have:
Hash House A Go Go - http://www.hashhouseagogo.com/
^^^Andy's Sage Fried Chicken Waffle Tower - awesome (I'd highly recommend this)
^^^Apple wood smoked bacon & mashed potatoes stuffed burger - awesome
^^^This place is best for breakfast/lunch. Make reservations if possible. Otherwise, expect to wait a good hour on weekend mornings between 10am-1pm
Phil's BBQ - http://www.philsbbq.net/
^^^Half (baby back, not beef) rib dinner (comes with your choice of 2 small sides) - best ribs I've ever had. Meat falls right off the bone, super tender.
^^^Best for lunch or dinner, but avoid going at peak hours lol. Line wraps around the building and they don't take reservations. My buddies and I just sit at the bar. Wait for bar seats is a good 5-10 minutes, which is way better than an hour or more for regular seating. I suggest one of your sides be fries - they go awesome with the extra BBQ sauce from the ribs.
Pizza Port - http://www.pizzaport.com/
^^^Top 3 pizza place I've ever been to, easily. They pile up toppings. I get the Roma.
^^^They also brew their own beer. Good stuff. If you're not a drinker, then they also make their own root beer - which is also awesome. Sometimes it's flat if it's at the end of the day, but it still tastes yummy.
Mariposa Ice Cream - http://www.mariposaicecream.com/
^^^mom and pop shop. They're hippies, lol. But they make awesome ice cream. I prefer this over Extraordinary Desserts, which I'm sure people will recommend.
Baby Cakes - http://babycakessandiego.com/
^^^great & moist cakes/cupcakes, walking distance from Hash House
Hodadies - http://www.hodadies.com/
^^^Big fat unhealthy juicy burgers and yummy shakes. Not a gourmet restaurant, but yumyumyum.
As far as hanging out, Gaslamp is okay. Restaurants there suck. Bars are okay. Clubs are eh. Ivy is the place to go if anything. Older crowd at Gaslamp for sure. I'm 22, so I tend to hang out in PB (Pacific Beach) more.
Wavehouse is a cool place. They have an artificial wave, cool to watch people do tricks and/or eat it lol. Gotta bar to drink and soak in the sun. Wavehouse is on the boardwalk, so you can take 5 steps and be on the beach. http://www.wavehouse.com/

maybe your lady might want to do the Hollywood tour. you pay for them to drive you around with a group of people and check out the homes of celebrities and you get to see whats around. pretty much it. it wasn't very exciting to me but my girl enjoyed looking at those huge mansions.
you can to go universal studios, then walk over to universal walk, i think its called, then walk into saddleranch at night lol. its the club/bar mention before.
stay away from small neighborhoods... like Watts, Compton, etc either way you'll be fine if your not the type that looks for trouble.
come down here to Anaheim and go to disneyland or maybe even knotts in buena park which its cheaper but disney will be the best choice.
If i would go to san diego i would go to gas lamp district. plenty of restaurants/bars. Sea World is fun. maybe even go on a cruise. they have the wild animal park, not talking about the san diego zoo, which i never been to but i heard its great.
one thing is you will need $$$... there is nothing cheap here in cali..
you can always go to TJ lol
