Of course cops can talk on the cell phone while driving. They uphold the law while breaking it at the same time. That's what they do for a living.

****.

Cop pulled me over for "texting" on Friday. I wasn't texting. Seriously.

I'll be sending a subpoena to Verizon to show I wasn't sending any texts within a 1+ hour window of when I received the citation...

+1 over here. On numerous occasions I've seen cops, including CHP, talking on cell phones.

Overall I agree with you, but why are blue tooths so crappy? Damn, I can't hear a damn thing with that thing in my ear. When I have to apply pressure to my blue tooth, it defeats the purpose of a blue tooth.

Deepdriver the percentage is much higher than half plus I see as many drivers on their cell now as before that law was passed making it illegal. When I was driving on the 57 south a couple weeks ago this young blonde driving a Benz was using two full lanes back and forth because she was texting. She was an accident going some place to happen. When I'm driving my cell is off cause I need to watch out for all the fools not aware of what they're doing or going....

So, does anyone know why cops can break the law and we can't?

They take a "special driving course" that teaches them to drive while distracted. At least that is what keeps them from getting in trouble so don't even bother trying to turn it around on them. HAHA TRUUUUST me... I tried.

IIRC, law enforcement and emergency personnel are exempt from the no cell phone law (as long as it isn't a personal call).

Police explain that emergency personnel are exempt because of job requirements. And police say talking on a hand-held cell phone is no different than using in-car police computers, or hand-held radios that have been around for decades.

"If you can't multi-task on things like that, you'll be washed out of the training course," Seattle Police spokesman Jeff Kappel said.
(d) This section does not apply to an emergency services professional using a wireless telephone while operating an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section 165, in the course and scope of his or her duties.
