ok, i just called Labree to ask about their cats, and he told me about something we have here in driver's paradise california called an ONRAMP SNIFFER. it is basically a sniffer that checks your car's smog when you accelerate to get onto the freeway. if you dont pass, you will get rolled by one-time(po-po). anyone else heard of these? or seen em? or even worse, been caught by one?

damn it. i was about to get test pipes too.

I've been tru the smog-checkpoints just never heard of the on-ramp ones before.

I have only heard of the smog ones being done in minority neighborhoods like Huntington Park,Lynnwood and Bell.

OMG, this is crazy, my buddy just got a ticket for this.

So on the 101 i was in my friends supra, we go up the on ramp to the 101 freeway in the SFV. After about 5 minutes of being on the freeway we get pulled over. For what you ask. Having a modified exahust.

I cant belive this came up. There is a little wire that the cops place on the ground of the street, once the you run over them, it for sure truggers a sensor that we saw on the shoulder of the onramp.

I swear my friends was following all traffic laws, and the cops only excuse was "you have a modified exhaust" Thats it

i think this has to be linked to that. I dont think its anything else.

well, it seems they are smog sniffers. that is one FAT *** fine in CA to modify your cats. a FAT one.

usually the little wire in the road that you run over records how many cars went over that area and at what times. it is for figuring out wether or not to put up a signal or for adjusting the signals for different time periods in the day. the wire runs to a black box on the side of the raod. plus i don't think that a "sniffer" could pick up the hydrocarbons from that far away anyways. and it would have to tell the difference from diesels and gasonline cas. diesels don't have to be smogged.

 

Ok then that clears things up a lil bit then.

I just guess the CHP officer who gave my friend the ticket was just an A$$HOLE.

Damn CHP.

yeah they can deffinatly get to be a$$holes... i got a ticket on the 15 southbound and i was doing 80 in the second to slow lane, people were doing at least 85-90+ in the other two faster lanes and the cop was traveling with them. he pulls over in my lane and gives me a ticket for 80 in a 70 when i was one of the slower cars... it must have been a "lets pick on imports" day. becasue i was driving my tow turboed s14 240. what bitches...

 

Nah, Temecula cops are pure *******s period hah.

These units are used in AZ and DC... they are called Remote Sensing devces, or nicknamed "Smog Dogs" and "Butt Sniffers".

I would not be surprised if they begin to show up in CA.
