Stealership shock
Well, I am a new member to the site and have to say that it might be short lived. I have a '04 coupe which recently had the clutch pedal hit the floor board. I suspected it was the slave cylinder and even heard the pivot ball hit the tranny casing when I towed the car home and tried confirming it was the slave cylinder.
Anyhow, I took it to the dealership to get a full assessment. It was the slave cylinder, pivot ball and apparently need a new flywheel. On top of that the differential mount bushings need replaced, compression arms too. Quoted me close to $6k for the work! WOW! That's half the value of the car.
They gave me the line that there is no aftermarket flywheel for the car, no aftermarket bushings for the differential mount so the whole subframe needs replacing and of course the full control arms.
I know for a fact that aftermarket flywheels exist, the differential bushings do also and so do the compression arm bushings.
I tried reaching out to what seemed like a decent shop and got turned off when in their quotes they claim to not recommend non-oem parts. Really?!
So looking for a shop that anyone would recommend, that does good work and labor pricing is fair in the southern OC. Anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks!

lot of the viet or korean mechanics in garden grove or westminister will do it for cheap..usually $70-80hr per hr for labor. They'll install whatever you want. I usually just buy parts online and just have them install it. Obvisously for the slave cylinder buy oem but for the lower control arms you can buy aftermarket.

Well, FINALLY have my parts and an appointment on Tuesday at Corner3Garage in Lake Forest to get my G fixed. It's been out of commission & sitting in garage since early February. Slave cylinder fail led to pivot ball break so for labor cost of getting into transmission waited to get flywheel & clutch replaced while they are at it.
Going with:
- NSK1000-SS-O Southbend Stage 3 Clutch Disc (530 Torque Cap)
- SBCNIS-2 Southbend Steel Flywheel
- CZP Chromoly Pivot Ball
- CZP SS Clutch Line
- Nismo Pilot Bearing
After that is done and the baby is up and running will have the compression rod bushings done, differential mount bushings done and have a bit of bodywork to complete the repairs.

So I take it to Corner 3 Garage and everything seems fine... Until they call me saying I gave them the wrong pivot ball and they noticed after they had reassembled tranny. Oh and I needed to pay extra labor for dropping tranny again.
After some research, seems my '04 is an early '04 and early '04's use '03 parts such as tranny and components.
Apparently no one really knows that, parts suppliers included.
Yet my issue with Corner 3 is that even so the difference between the '03 pivot ball & '04 is pretty substantial, yet the mechanic couldn't tell the difference and only realized it after reassembling tranny? Really?
