Best thing to do if you are Cingular is go to a booth or store and have your service switched to ATT. (They are the same but different in a way) Now your contract will be cancelled with Cingular and transferred to ATT for free, no contract break penalty since they are the same company. But they start you on a new contract on ATT. Hold on the ATT contract for like 3 days, then return the Phone to the store and cancel the contract. By California law, you have 30 days to cancel your cell phone contract without any penalties! Now you are free again to start a new contract anywhere. Start a new contract and get the phone you want or whatever.... I had my wife do this every year for a new phone for her.
As for me a get a new phone every 6 months b/c of my company. Let's say I get my phones for SUPER cheap, Treo 650 is only 75 bucks but it's under my company's contract. I just trade up when I feel like it.
