I know that I was getting better mileage with 87 than 91 when I had my Golf VR6.

Dizz,
I also remember the high school days when I was filling at $0.7x/gallon for my little Civic (87 octane). And Ten bux was enough to fill her up! My last fill up was 45 bonez! The last time I had to do that to another vehicle was trying to fill the behimeth Chevy Tahoe. Her tank was bottomless ... I stopped at $50!
btw ... higher octane gas doesn't burn any cleaner. However, back in the days ... they did add detergents and other goods to make high octane gas more attractive to buy for those that do not need actually need the higher octane. Now days ... additives are the norm, so paying for higher octane gas that one does not need is rather silly. Too bad the G demands it!

as for millage..I do get more milleages with 87 on my accord compares to 91..
I also heard alot of different saying... such as lower oct. give your more power but doesn't burn as clean.. but some say high oct. give you better performance...
now...get me to think if performance = power?

Lake forest... but the cheapest I've seen it is by Clint's house.
When we were at $2.50, Philips ranch area was $2.29-2.31.
Damn you Clint!

Are you skipping gears to better your mileage? 1-3-5-6 or 2-4-6?
I've been skipping and coasting at all lights or stopped cars.

40-45 a week... that's not bad.. it will last me about 3-4 days only..
Clint...you are one lucky man....haha...
I got $2.67 last Sunday from Costco at Puente Hill, I think they have one at Irvine too, I usually drop by the Garden Grove Costco on my way home to gas up and get some Korean food

I use to do 1-2-4-6. Didn't see much gain from it ... because you're having to rev each one out a little more (using up valuable gas) in order for the next gear to not bog. That also puts a litte more abuse on the synchros. I'm accustome to short shifting with no gear skipping. The key is to feather the throttle as much as possible and to get to 6th quickly. Shifting at 2k is just enough for the next gear to pull decently.

So, 1-3-5-6 when there's no one behind me and 1-2-4-6 when there's traffic.
I think it helps a little bit... But you mentioned the synchros... if youre steppin on the clutch, shouldnt everything be good?

fill me in please....what type of gas are we talking about?
but I found something interesting since the fuel price started going up, I see lots of "other none name brand or no sign attached" truck refilling the name brand stations....have you guys notice that around your area?
I heard some gas station will buy cheaper brand gas , mix them, and sell it under their name brand?

I'm not really a brand wh*re but for gas, I only put Chevron 91 or 76- 91 gas.
I was forced to put shell because I was running on fumes.
I was going to try race gas one time, but did research that it won't do sh*t fo a N/A engine.
