Front License Plate (required?)

OK I've read a lot of threads where people have gotten speeding tickets and then written up for no front license plate. My question is should I just display it on the dash on the inside? OR should I drill the holes and install the frame?

I got the Stillen front plate bracket. Looks OK, but it connects to the tow bar, and extends away from the car about 3/4 of an inch. Upside I can spin it off and pop in the plastic cover in about 1 minute. I guess I hate dealing with cops, dont want to get popped for speeding, tint and front plate all at the same time yikes..

Ever since I stopped modifying my car (long *** time ago) , I don't get a ticket for not having my front license plate on. It's true that cops hate modified cars.

I wouldn't say hate, but more of a target since it attracts more attention. I've seen a million Mercedes and BMWs without the front plates driven by older people and the cops never give them problems.

If I was a cop, I wouldn't give it a second thought since my mentality would be, "eh, they're old. They don't even know." But if I saw a fixed up car or one that attracts a lot of attention with no front plates, my thoughts would be, "Yeah, he knows he's supposed to have the front plates. I'm going to mess with him and give him a ticket."

My advice to not get caught for speeding...hehehe.

I've gotten a ticket for no plate before, but ONLY when they pull me over for other stuff such as speeding. No cop has pulled me over JUST for no plate.

One time...a looonnnngggg time ago...back in Hawaii, my S14 ('96 Nissan 240SX) had no front plate & no Recon (reconstruction permit...required for any modification to vehicle, such as wheels or lowered or exhaust, etc.). I got pulled over for speeding & the guy gave me 4 tickets at once: 1) speeding 2) changing lanes w/o signaling 3) no recon 4) no front plate...that sucked!!!

The worst part is, I KNEW I was wrong...what could I say, y'know?

Technically yes, they can give a ticket... but I have been pulled over twice in my G and they haven't even considered it. On the other hand, when I was much younger and more radical, I got pulled over in a mini truck and the cop wrote a ton of ****! Anything he could find including no front plate.

The bottom line is, in a car like this if you look and act respectful and respectable, I highly doubt you will get written up for no plate (I probably just jinxed myself and will get a ticket tomorrow). If it does happen, it's just a fix it, like others have said.

I wouldn’t bother putting a plate on the front (unless you like it for some reason).

Went 9 years on my old Acura Legend without a plate. Never a problem (pulled over once for a bogus rolling stop - no mention of plate). The bummer here is that when I got my new sedan last week, the finance guy had me sign whether to have it installed or not. I initially said no, but he went on to say that it was "non-destructive" and I could take it off at will (the Legend had been like that). WRONG! Just washed it for the first time and decided to remove the plate bracket. Not only where there two holes drilled, but the bolts that attach the plate to the frame are a hair too long (or the paper "Discover Infinity" insert too thin) and scratched the bumper under the bracket. Well, no question now - the plate will be on to stay.

I put mine on when I go to other cities... Cops in Irvine don't seem to mind no front plate... since like 80% of all mercedes and stuff have no front plate. *knock on wood*
