Removing window tint
Removing window tint
Can I do it myself, and if so, how?
If I need to take it to a shop, how much will it cost to have the front window tint removed?
Finally, any recommendations on shops in SF Valley to have remove the tint(and most likely replace it a week later)? I intend to have it done on Friday.

yea you can do it yourself, if you take it to the shop they will charge you anywhere from 10-40 dollars a window.
If you want to get it taken off by a shop go to SunShield in Van Nuys and ask for Hamid
If you want to do it your self you need to get these supplies:
1. Box cutters (razor blades)
2. A $hit load of windex and soap and water.
So to take it off here is wat you do
1. First peel off the tint
- it may take some muscle but it can be done, if you cant peel it off use the razor blade but be careful.
2. Next spray the window from the inside of the car side totally covered with windex or soap and water.
3. The with the razor blade gradually and being careful scrap the glue off.
It shouldnt take long but make sure your window is always wet.
if you have any problems let me know.

Hmmm, this is probably a bit rhetorical, but if you know any cops, they can sign it off.
A lot of elbow grease will do it. I wouldn't use box cutters. Maybe a razor. Spray it down with some adhesive remover that isn't too strong. That ought to do it and make it easier than windew.

Arash's place is reasonable on prices to remove and replace the tint once the ticket is signed off on. Plus it is less than a 10 minute drive from my house.
As for having a cop sign off....I work for LE, and know a lot of Sheriffs. With what I know about our disciplinary processes, I do not feel comfortable doing something that is only going to save an amount less than $100.

Well this all turned out much easier than I expected. I went over to Sunshield this morning. Took about 20 minutes to remove the tint. The price to remove the tint, and then replace is next week is VERY reasonable. I took my car over to the Sheriffs inspection area next to the Van Nuys Courthouse. I just pulled up at the curb and the deputy signed off the tickets. I went into the courthouse and paid the $30(2*15). I have to go to metro courthouse Monday to take care of the ticket with the courthouse and I am guessing there is another $10-25 fee. All told, it will cost me less than $100 and I will get to still have the front windows tinted.
Thanks to Arash for recommending Sunshield.
Also thanks for recommending Tires Buy Mark. Their people are kinda gruff, but they were cheaper than any online site I found by a little, and then I do not have to pay for mounting and balance. I am guessing I saved $200 or so by going to them. I did find sites that were slightly cheaper(like $5-10 a tire) on the cost of the tire, but not after factoring shipping.

Tires are ordered. I work Mon-Thurs so I will go over there Friday to get the tires mounted & balanced.
BTW, any tips on where to go for allignment. Tires Buy Mark said allignment will be $60. That seems like a reasonable price. The inner part of the tires seems to wear slightly faster than the outside.
