Recent Encounter with StreetImage

I recently ordered a set of Racing Hart C4Rs from StreetImage through JEFF CHEN aka BOBOWAH. He confirmed it with Dazz Motorsports that the rears will
clear my Rear StopTech BBK(ST-45). After waiting from 1pm to 6pm, the wheels finally arrived at the shop. My original set of J8s were sold to a online buyer the same day. The fronts were mount fine. When they got the rears mounted. They were completely off, even with +6mm spacers, the lugs would not hold with only 2 turn and sticking out about a 1.5.

I was completed stranded at that point. As a result, I had my sister drive up my stocks from Torrance at 8pm to StreetImage. Mounted my stocks and left for home 9pm. To make the story short, since the wheels were mounted once. They cannot be returned and I am stuck with it. Eric was relucant in giving my full cash refund back. The General Policy once the Wheels are mounted they CANNOT be returned. I paid $2225 plus $120 mounting fee. I had offers for $2200 with free mounting. I decided to go with StreetImage, since Mondo does an awesome work in all installations, and he take pride in
all of his installs. Give him a carton of Marbolo Menthol and he does wonders. I advise for future purchases do not go through JEFF CHEN aka BOBOWAH at StreetImage. He will sell you the product. If things hit the fan, He will offload it to Eric and Roy at StreetImage. JEFF CHEN has no accountability to what he sells. Eric and Roy were very diligent in helping me to the best of their ability to resolve the issue and gave me my full refund excluding the
$120 mounting charge. In the future, do not use cash purchases at StreetImage. I advise using Credit Card, so you can file a dispute through the Credit Card Company and they can place a hold on their payment.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

Here's my 2cents...

Since i bought my coupe last june, i've poured thousands of dollars into mods.
95% of that was with StreetImage (SI).
The other 5% was before i knew of SI.

There were TONS of chances when things could have gone wrong.
And there actually WERE times when things went wrong.

$HIT happens. It's a part of life.
It's a big part in modding.
Sometimes, it just don't go as planned.
Backorders, fitment issues, blown engines, wrong parts... anything...

When $hit hit the fan, the team at SI was on top of it.
They were there to isolate the problem, find a solution, and execute.
That's all anyone can, and should, ask for.

You CANNOT demand perfection. That's unreasonable.
But as a customer, you do deserve the proper treatment. No more no less.
In my dealings with SI, they have taken care of me.

Trust me when i say this.
I'm one picky ****. I'm a very man hard to please.
Even worse when i'm a customer.

If i couldn't trust the SI team to take care of my modding needs, and ESPECIALLY to take care of me when a problem surfaced, they wouldn't be my #1 choice. I do business with only those i trust.

SoCaliG35er... in my eyes, Dazz is the one that dropped the ball.
Both SI and you were like deer-caught-in-the-headlights after u found out the wheels didn't fit.
The fact that the wheels were already mounted with tires rang "done deal" but Dazz was in the wrong.
Plain and simple.
Dazz=Culprits

I don't know the exact words that were exchanged between you and Jeff.
But i will vouch for EVERYONE at SI including Jeff.
I've dealt with other places... i'd never *EVER* go back.

Like i said man. I'm sorry you had to go thru this.
But it seems to me that you're directing your anger at the wrong people.
DAZZ said it would fit, it didn't fit... they misled you and SI.

That's all i have to say.

Hey, with all due respect... your statement was unnecessary.
SoCaliG35er wanted input about other people's experiences.
I know that you have helped out a multitude of people with your services.
Some of my closest G-buddies sing loud praises of your workmanship and knowledge.

Don't demean yourself nor your reputation.
I thought you'd have more class than that.

You do your thing, let SI do theirs.
And BTW, in my humblest opinion, you're not a shop to begin with.
You work out of your garage.
Do you have a business license?
Just asking... not trying to make this personal.

And lastly, you don't need Jeff's actions to make you look good.
But the manner in which you responded to this thread may be making yourself look bad.

Just a thought.

I'm OUT!

RE: Response and Street Image's position

Alex aka SoCaliG35er,
I am truly disappointed with this post. I am only going to post this one time and this is Street Image's statement and I'll let the facts speak for themselves.

Street Image has handled this situation as any reputable shop would. WE have gone above and beyond in order to keep you happy.

Some background on Jeff aka bobowah. I am one of the owners of Street Image as well as Eric, the other owner. I am one of the primary contacts for Street Image on my350z.com forum. I do have regular job like the rest of the members, handle Street Image when I have the opportunity as I was a fellow enthusiast of the 350z and G35 during the day at work and sometimes late into the evening from home, and attend an MBA program.

I would like to give Street Image's account of this situation.

1. Negotiations and Confirmation of Fitment:
For five days, Jeff@Street Image worked with Alex in regards to pricing and checking offset which would fit his G35 Coupe with Stoptech 14.1" BBK Front and Rear. I consistently made calls to Dazz Motorsports to confirm that these Racing Hart C4R rims WOULD NOT fit. For three times in a row, I confirmed with Kathyrn at Dazz that the sizes and offsets they had in inventory DID NOT fit the rear application which was specified. These were 19x9 +26 front and 19x10.5 +22 rear. However Alex kept telling me that Tony@Performance confirmed that they fit. I said well my Dazz contact has told me they do not fit. Then Alex, himself called Dazz to check that they fit. And then somebody at Dazz told him yes. I was still in disbelief because so many people said it fit so I sent Dazz the Stoptech wheel fitment guide and Kathryn@Dazz ran it again and said that it DID NOT fit. So I relayed this information back to Alex. Alex is determined to get these wheels so I told him I'll check one more time.

2. Pricing:
Alex comes back with pricing from Performance Nissan and Status Motorsports and they both said it fit. So with on last ditch effort I called again getting a different person at Dazz and asked them if this wheel combination would fit with a G35 with Stoptech 14.1" BBK in the rear and they said yes. I double check at this point and said did you run the wheel fitment guide and they said yes. So I took this to heart and confirm with Alex and then negotiated pricing. My pricing started off in the ball park and he lowballed me with pricing from other vendors. Alex being a better internet acquantance I figured I would make a minimal profit on the parts and labor because I have known him for a while, since Street Image is a business. And I left it it up to him to decide who to go with. He did get lower pricing with Status Motorsports and again I told Alex no hard feelings if you go with them and it's more convenient. But he said "I like dealing with Street Image." So I took the order.

2. The Appointment and Labor:
Street Image is a shop specializing in Performance modifications and retail sales of performance parts. We do subcontract tire mounting to a local tire shop. I was upfront with Alex regarding this and told him directly that we subcontracted the work to someone else. But we would arrange for the work to be done in a timely manner. Transportation of his Racing Hart J8 and tires and swap onto newer Racing Hart C4R would occur with the subcontractor. Turns out the subcontractor was swamped even though an appointment was set by Street Image with them to do this work. Thus the tire and wheel swap was delayed. Alex arrived at 1pm, wheels were off his car by about 130pm and on their way to our subcontractor. The subcontractor performed the unmounting and remounting at about 5pm. Something totally out of Street Image's control. Wheels come back to Street Image and we find out that Racing Hart C4R do not clear the calipers. Street Image tries existing spacers in order to make it fit however they are not safe to drive on the street so we advise Alex against taking the car home in this condition because there is not enough of the wheel studs holding the rim to the axle.

3. The Refund Proposal:
Once the situation was accessed it was 630pm on Friday 10/14 We could not find out if we could return the wheels or double check why this wheel size and offset did not fit. Like most Wheel and Tire places, once tires are mounted to the wheels, the wheels become non-refundable. Street Image told Alex we would work with him in regards to refunding his money or help him sell the rims. Street Image drafted up a contract stating that Street Image check on Monday 10/17 if Dazz would take back the rims. And upon this result we would refund his money but until then we would not be able to.

4. Weekend of Drama:
Thoroughout the weekend, Alex kept im'ing Jeff and also had Alex's family members im'ing Eric in regards the situation. This is the weekend. There are no distributors which Street Image can get in contact with over the weekend to resolve this issue. I tell Alex we will get back to him on Monday. Either Eric or Roy will give you a call by Close of Business Monday.

5. The Refund:
Luckily, Dazz Motorsports agrees to take back the rims and Street Image is able to refund Alex his money. Alex signs a release of liablility form and receives a check for the amount of the wheels on Monday 10/17/2005 as we promised. The tire mounting and unmounting fees still needs to be kept as we need to pay our tire subcontractor.

Jeff,

I applaud you for the time and effort you took out of your night to insure Street Image's reputation. Although **** happens (we try not to be the person it happens to) i feel that you guys were on the ball and took a very professional response to this matter.

Is what Jeff (bobowah) stated true? There are two sides to every story and following his detailed account of how everything went down, it looks like you were hard headed in wanting that specific offset and paid for it in the end. If Dazz stated that it would fit, then it is THEIR FAULT and not Street Image's especially after they warned you that it would NOT FIT.

Jeff, Mando, Jim, Roy, and Eric are all great guys and I would trust them with my car on ANY JOB as like I have stated numerous times, they treat your car like their own if not better. All of my experiences with SI have been top notch and if I had to report their services to "their boss" with a survey they would get a 15 out of 10 on everything. No joke. Fortunately, we are lucky in that we get to deal with the owners first hand and their concern of their customers truly show every single time I am down there.

I usually do not share this story, but in this case I think that I need to as their reputation is at stake. A few months back I purchased my LSD, 3.917 gears, ARC oil pan, and Nismo Power steering cooler from Tony Nazzal @ Performance (Thanks Tony!) and decided to get the work done at Street Image since I heard such positive things about them and wanted to give them a try.

It was one of the best decisions I ever made for my 350z and until this day I will never forget it. They spent all day (Saturday) with my car and handled everything on what they could control in an extremely quick fashion, however Eric told me right away that it may take longer than they expected since they use a friend's press machine for the install. Turns out that the friend they usually utilize had a press that needed maintenance, so they asked me if I was in major need of my car since my car is basically a track car and it was Saturday after all. Unfortunately, I had a shoot with a magazine the following morning and needed the car that night. With this information Eric pulled some strings and was able to use a press at his father’s work all the way in Torrance, which is drive from where they are located. Eric assured me that it would be finished and that he would call me when the car was completed. I was honestly getting a bit worried around 1AM Sunday morning, but I receive a call on my cell phone and it was Eric telling me come on down! I made it to the shoot with a beast of a car and I am extremely grateful that they took their customer service to the next level for me.

Since then I have done jobs here and there with them when I get the chance. I would consider Jeff my friend and I would physically fight for him if I had to as I chat with him a lot and our trust level to me is above the typical customer-vendor relationship that was kicked off by SI’s sincerity in the first place when I was the “normal customer.” Hell I have SI to thank for a few huge sponsorships that I acquired as well.

That's the Street Image I know, Jeff!

Nobody that's worked with you and SI would have taken that first post at face value.

When it comes down to it, customers are selfish babies. I know what it's like to try your hardest and have the customer blame you for stuff you had no control over. Bobowah, your customer service was 10 levels over "above and beyond". $hit happens in life and in business. It's how you deal with it that counts. The customer dealt with it by acting like an a$$ and badmouthing you. You acted like pro and did everything humanly possible. The customer is not always right. Cudos to SI.
