Cali is already a better place for the execution. Many people of all races, religion, socioeconomic background, educational levels did not agree with the plea for clemency. I am one of them.

One thing that still botherss me is that it shouldnt take 20 yrs to execute a convicted felon. Tookie was on death row for 24 years.

Clarence Ray Allen has been in prison since 1974 and was spared the death penalty. So what did he do? he ordered the execution of 3 people from prison. he has been on death row since 1981 and has now plead for clemency.

Why cant we have a 4 appeal (State Court of Appeals, State Supreme Court, Fed Court of Appeals, Fed Supreme Court) system and set a timeframe for the appeals. For instance, Appeals must be files within 1 year of the prior appeal. Including the Superior Court trial, that would put us at around 5 yrs from initial trial to final appeal/execution.

Look how many are on death row and look how long they've been sitting there. The cost to us is astounding. the cost of their appeals is astounding.

and oh yeah, if anyone argues that the penal system is racist and any particular racial group is unfairly treated by the penal system, take a look at the ethnic profile fo the death row population. (39.5% white, 35.3% black, 18.9% hispanic and 6.17% other) seems to me they dole out the death sentence fairly evenly between whites and blacks.

Yeah if you put the numbers in that perspective! But look at the Census numbers of Whites, Blacks, Etc, Comparing numbers of those Living Free to those Incarcated The Numbers are Extremely Uneven! If your Black or Minority the Chanaces are MUCH Greater for you to Do Hard Time!

The numbers are there to show that all people of all races are punished under the law.

Do you really think whites dont get as much hard time as the other races?
Since you are defending the other races (minorities) I suggest you research the number of violent crimes commited by each of the races vs the total minority population and then do the math.

What conclusion do you derive from the fact that a larger percentage of blacks are incarcerated than any other ethnic group?

When I was a juror on a gang shooting in LA the jury was 4 white guys (me), 1 indian guy, 1 black lady, 1 asian lady, 2 latino ladies and 3 latino guys. I felt it was the most even representation possible. The defendant was a latino male being charged with 1st degree muder and 2 counts attempted murder. We evaluated the evidence, and he was not guilty. It was very fair trial, I think the justice system is fine from my only 1st hand experience. Anyone else with first hand experience?

Peace

I've had first hand experience as a juror. The accused was a white man. Accused of child molestation. There were only 2 whites on the jury(the def and prosecution atty's both took turns dismissing prospective white juriors as well as ethnic jurors). They (The white jurors) immediately found him guilty. The rest of us wanted to examine the evidence more closely because we wanted to come up with a fair verdict. After hours and hours of deliberation, hashing and rehashing the evidence we rendered our verdict.

and as for Tookie, yes, not a single pure black was on the jury. One man was half black, half filipino. But you can't blame the penal system, for that. Each atty gets to dismiss prospective jurors without challenge. If Mr William's atty felt that hsi client was under represented by blacks, he should have asked for an additonal panel tgo be brought in. And don't give me the argument that his atty was racist or unqualified. No one has ever accused his atty of being racist before and he was recognized as the def atty of the year the year before Mr William's trial.

I want my money back to for having to house him and the others that leach off of all of us. The stats are on the Ca.gov web page on what it costs to house each one of these guys. The stats are also there on what it costs for each of their appeals. In this case, it was millions. Who here believes that those millions came from the sale of 9 childrens books that even the LA public library only has 9 copies of.

Your argument is so disjointed and bizarre. I doubt you possess the reading comprehension skills to correctly respond to this, but lets give it a shot.

I have to sort of guess what your argument is....I think it is something like:

The entire justice system, from cops to courts to prisons, are systematically racist against blacks.

I would contend that the above statement is false.

If it is true, I ask you to prove it using facts and drawing logical conclusions from those facts. If you do successfully prove that point, I will 1.) admit that I am wrong, and 2.) never vote for a Republican again.

For my part, if you cannot prove it to be true, then I ask you do only one of the following:

1.) Admit that the United States justice system, while flawed in some ways, is not inherently racist.

or

2.) Admit that you accept things as absolute truth, that have little or no factual basis and further, that you do not intellectually challenge these notions. Ie, you are an idiot.

Can't we somehow take it to the polls on how long death row inmates get to appeal their case? Shoot...if Arnold gets his special election, we should be able to.
