No worries VQ ... once you step onto the track at LS and do a lap, you'll quickly and wisely turn it down a notch or two as a beginner. The elevation changes is quite simply put ... Dramatic! No PS2/GT4 will ever reproduce that feeling.
Keep the interest coming guys. We'll be joined by a bunch of my S2000 friends from S2Ki.com ... will be a fun fun event. If you get curious check this thread:

I am definitely "in". This is one of the most famous and beautiful tracks in the country, and a "must do". It is not a dangerous track if you just use a little common sense and stay within the limits of the car and your skill sets. It was my first track experience two years ago, with Clint, and was well worth it. I did it in the coupe with oem wheels and pilot sport tires, and it was plenty fun.
You have two approaches to lodging. You can stay in Salinas on the inland side of the track, or you can pay a few more bucks and stay in Monterey/Pacific Grove area. Clint and I will look into getting a special deal at a restaurant in that area for a dinner party after the event (enough after that you can get yourself a shower and come looking decent!). We will do a separate sign in sheet for the dinner.
I would recommend a full visor helmet. You have to run with both windows down for safety. While normally I have had no issues, there have been a couple of occasions where but for the visor I would have been hit in the face with something at high speed. One was a glob of melted tire rubber than smacked the outside rear view mirror and then splattered on my throat (I wear a balaclava now!) attaching itself such that I had to peel it carefully off; and the other was a little honey bee that got sucked in and smacked the visor right in front of my left eye. Now.........you decide. The other time was in a formula car, which probably does not count, but coming up on another car down the front straight and into the Andretti Hairpin...at over 100mph....I caught a piece of gravel from the car in front...about the size of a pea...and it hit the visor so hard it put a three inch crack in it and slammed my head against the back rest. So......get a visor, and tape your lights lads.
Clint has a video split screen from earlier this year of some laps we did, and can put up a link if you want a teaser view. This is a super experience and you will not regret it. Just prep your car properly and drive with your head and not your hormones, and you will be fine.

Aahh ... Ed (Eagle1)'s post is always a breath of fresh air. Excellent advises he offered.
The private dinner in Monterey is brilliant! I hope everyone will be able to join us there.
For some teaser videos ... check my webpage at:

Enter the page and scroll down to the bottom. Each yellow icon represent a particular track, where you'll find video clips under some of em. Enjoy!
