I'm at the 117k mark and it just happened to me. Am I supposed to go to the dealer and they'll already know its a TSB and not charge me? Or will I have to explain to them what a TSB is? As we know, dealers are usually very uneducated and unaware...

tsb's (technical service bulletins) are NOT a recall. if you are out of warranty u are basically out of luck. so u'll have to pay for the repair or do it yourself.

the tsb calls for the following parts to be replaced:

PARTS INFORMATION
DESCRIPTION | PART # | QUANTITY

Fuel Level Sensor O-ring | 17342-CE800 | 1
Shutter Valve | 17260-AM600 | 1

everything nissan lists the prices as:
17342CE800 MSRP- $7.96 Discount- $5.98
17260AM600 MSRP- $6.05 Discount- $4.54

claim information shows that it's only billed for 1 hour

DESCRIPTION | PFP | OP CODE |SYM | DIA | FRT
RPL Shutter Valve | (1) | FX19AA | ZE | 32 | 1.0 hrs

i'd love to see what infiniti would quote. i'm sure it would be through the nose.

fyi: the tsb # is ITB05-031.

cheers.

ps... if you suspect that your tank is being filled up.. but your gas gauge shows an incorrect amount.. like 1/2 a tank.. it's most likely the sending unit that is screwed up. the tsb # for that is ITB05-043.... otherwise, if your having problems filling up in general.. like u know your tank is empty and only 5$ goes in.. then it's definitely the shutter valve that is screwed.

I've always had this issue, and never bothered to take it for a fix.

I'll probably take it in anytime soon for a few TSB's.

Have had this issue too, but only once in a while.
Every time when it was having occasional issues, I'd try a different pump and then it fill up with no problems.
Station pump vapor recovery issues I concluded.

When the flapper is the issue, does it always have problems no matter if you go to different station pump same day or soon afterward?
Anyone know?
Thanx.

I know the fix guys! try this .. when your gas meter reads 1/4 full, bring it to a gas station. Instead of letting the pump gas up your car automatically, hold the trigger on the gas pump manually and tilt/turn the pump 90 degrees to the left. So for example, instead of the pump being in a neutral position like " | ", it would be pumping like this : " == ". Sorry if it's confusing but it worked for me.

giddyup and bok, thanks for the detailed info.

EDIT: tried the 'turn the handle' trick but it didn't work, still only get 7/8 of a tank (still cost me 60 bucks). I was only able to turn it 45 degrees, though, without pulling the nozzle partway out of the filler neck. I'll try it that way next fillup.

Out of warranty, and reading 3/4 tank.

1st Trip to dealership=shutter valve replacement

still reading 3/4 tank

2nd trip = sending unit replaced.

No cost if under warranty, but...

If you are out of warranty and have this problem, have them go straight to the sending unit and replace that (sending unit has a shutter valve in the kit and they replace it anyway). $400 for me. I cry about the price I paid, but it was fixed.

same here, but I've got an 04 coupe. I don't remember it taking more than 16 gallons ever since I started having this issue. I did have an issue with it saying it was full, but then emptying super quick.....but my fuel economy was normal for how many tanks it took to fill it back up so I put in a fuel cleaner and that solved a lot of the issues.

Guess I'll talk to them when they service it later this month.
