Just got back from the dealer. After my first 1000 miles, I'm almost 4 quarts low. I was told I need to go another 1000 before they can do anything...looks like I'm taking a road trip this weekend.

I am from australia and I'm thinking of importing the JDM 350GT.

since nissan australia would not provide warranty on the vehicle, I want to find out if topping-up the engine with oil regularly is the way to go (at least in my case). or would i be experiencing problems later on if I just top it up?

thank you

Have you called Infiniti Customer Care? At 4 quarts low they might step in and help you out. Have fun on the road trip! :driving:

That's a great idea actually. The thing that worries me most is that I don't know if I can furnish all my oil change receipts...the dealer already prepped me by saying to get as many as I can "in case the factory asks"....

I've done most of my oil changes on my own, and probably only have two or so actual receipts (other than my 15, 30, and 45,000 mile maintenance)...

TIA

my friends who own Zs and Gs say just to keep checking the oil and that synthetic isn't going to be necessary. but in your case all your repairs are going to be out of pocket if the motor fails. plus, you're going to pay more to have the car delivered to you. if i could have a right hand drive car, it's R34 all the way! i've always changed my oil with synthetic. the car eats about 0.5-1qt every 4,000 miles. as far as importing goes, my SR20DET powered S13 with upgraded turbo and cams doesn't consume oil. what an awesome motor for what it is (high mileage, used, imported). just hope you don't get a motor that consumes >1qt every 1,000 mi. how willing are you to gamble with a headache for an imported motor?

I saw an old thread on the origin of the problem and recall that is it somehow related the pistons? The guy opened up his engine and replace the pistons.

BUT I am not sure if this is indeed the root of the problem. can someone confirm?

thank you

When I had my motor done the dealer didn't ask for any receipts. The dealer was pretty cool about it since they didn't even say anything about the mods I had done. Hopefully you won't have to show any receipts.

Thanks...keep in mind that I have an '03, which is technically not part of the TSB that was released. Not sure if they'd try to make me jump through more hoops b/c of that...I'll definitely keep you posted. Going in for the next OC test this week.

Oh I didn't realize you had an 03. I hope they don't give you a hard time because my friend had an 04 with oil consumption issues and they gave him a really hard time about replacing the motor.

Did he ever get the motor? Did he call Customer Care? Did he have to furnish receipts?

Thanks...

^Prior to the revup TSB, any VQ that consumed 1qt/1000mi or more and under warranty was replaced, so not sure what Infiniti does now with non revup VQ's since revup TSB release.

The receipt thing I know nothing about as far as replacements go. Might depend on dealer and the SM that's there.
SM is the one who tells regional rep yes, then regional tells Infiniti to give green light on replacement.
SM is your friend, don't burn that bridge whatever you do :icon44:

Question for those of you that have had an engine replaced...What happens to the mileage on the odometer? Is it reseted or does it just continue from where it was previously?

V35 Skyline GT 04-15-2008 06:25 PM

^ Odo mileage continues on. It can't be reset back to zero.

Nah, a week after he picked it up from the dealer he was hit and the car got totalled, but they asked for receipts when his car was there.
