Infiniti Rev-Up Oil Consumption TSB
#1471
I would say an overwhelming % of G/Z drivers are experiencing some kind of consumption. My good friend bought his '06 G35 6sp 6 months after I bought my '05. Last week he checks his dipstick and literally saw almost no oil. I've been telling him for the past year or so about my car. I was like "duh, told you these cars will consume at least a little bit." Of course I drive mine way more than he does...apx 10,000mi every year. And I follow the OC threads on driver and my350 lol.

has anyone gotten this replaced courtesy of Infiniti without a warranty? Because after taking it in for the beginning of the engine diagnostic it sounds like I'm going to be screwed to pay 100% cost myself. And to think Lexus replaced the whole engine block in a car that had more mileage on it than mine with 0 cost to us from a much similar problem (was also not under any warranty)...

Oil Consumption problems
What is the current mileage?
Did you check that the serial numbers on the engine is different than the original one ? Did they actually changed the engine ? Or just the Engine block without the heads ?
Its important for all of us who have this type of engine to know all the facts.
Mine is now ready to go back to the dealer after 1000 miles.
It seems to be missing about 4mm on the stick.
Only above 5mm is considered to much !!!
I also found the PCV valve stuck, just one day befor the last oil change.
This may be the main reason these engines use up oil so early.
And because no one checks the PCV valve without a reason, no one knows the engine is running low on oil until its to late !!!.
The oil light turns on only when the oil presure is low, not when the oil content is low!!!!!!!!!!!!

High Oil Consumption Test Feb 24 2011
G35 4-doors, manual, high rev engine.
Just returned from the dealer for the 1001 miles oil consumption test.
Odometer : 29,911 miles.
In the morning before taking it to the dealer the deep stick measured about 10mm of missing oil. Several picture were taken for the record.
At the dealer I asked to be called inside when they check the oil.
The deep stick showed only 4 to 5 mm of missing oil.
They showed me a new chart which was different than the one pulled from this web site.
The TSB on this web site is: ITB08-002.
The new TSB chart is : ITB08-002d
The old (oil consumption) chart starts from zero mileage in increments of 500
The new one starts at 1001 miles but allows 8mm of missing oil @ 1001 versus7mm on the old chart.
After returning from the dealer I measured the oil again and found it to be
as it was at the dealer !
My only conclusion is: that they have added oil prior of calling me in to see the measurements.
Remember that this was the dealer who stated that Engine oil consumption is not part of Power Train Warranty !
After that they told me that the case is closed.
What are you guys suggest my next step to be.

HI GUYS! Welcome me to the club
I was just refused a replacement due to "non-factory modifications to engine". I have an 05 6MT with 55k miles on it with the following mods:
AEM CAI
Kinetix V Plenum
Headers (don't know what brand)
Tanabe Medallion Cat Back Exhaust
I brought the car in a little over a month ago to start an oil consumption test. I was told to bring it back in 1500 miles. I did that two days ago. It took them a whole day to verify but finally said they'd have someone from "warranty" come in the next day at 1:00 PM to inspect the unit. So, obviously it's consuming oil. I know so because I checked the dip stick before I took the car in and it was WAY low. So, yesterday, I get a call saying that yet another person had to come in to inspect the unit because of some modifications. Right away I know where they are going with this and I told the service agent about the known issue with these cars and the fact that my mods have NOTHING to do with the oil consumption. So, today (two days after I brought it in) I get another call stating I was denied warranty service for the mods. I told the service agent about the TSB, the hundreds if not thousands of cars with this issue, and about the Magnuson Moss act. She suggested I talk to the person who had inspected my car, but that guy didn't answer his extension the five times I called him this afternoon. I'm planning to stop by the dealership tomorrow to talk to the guy with a copy of the TSB and some more legal stuff. Any suggestions?
