2005 Squeak and Rattle TSB
2005 Squeak and Rattle TSB
Finally, a TSB for some of our rattle woes. It only covers the clock area, the center console, and the dash air vents. I'm not sure about what others think, but I'm not completely satisfied with the air vent fix. I have that problem, and that lubricant sounds like a temporary fix to me.

Thanks for the post. I have had my G to the dealership twice for the drivers side A/C vent that rattles/buzzes. They replaced the entire vent - same thing. (Wonder if they actually test drive to ensure they fixed? hmmmmmm) I came up with my own temporary fix, that is a small subber stopper with double sided tape that I put on the vent side bettween it and the door. (this way you dont see it) Its hidden and the pressure pushes the vent together and stops the noise. The lubricant does seem like a "rig up" just like what I did, except my rig up will last.
I have the console rattle but it seems like it also pertains to the plastics on the side. Not sure why that whole stretch on the console are all cheap plastics. Anyway this rattle doesn't bother me nearly as much as the rear window pop/tick noises that was fixed. I definitely want to bring it back to dealer and fix the rattles when I have time.
Question is...is there an expiration date for these TSB? Can they say "no" to it after a year or two?
I mean it's fun to get a loaner and beat it up but at the same time it's annoying going to the dealers too. I can still tolerate the console rattles for now.

As for the vent rattle, I think I'm going to try either felt tape or the rubber stopper like jady mentioned. I get so nervous when I think of having the dealership take my car apart. They may fix one rattle but return it to me with 3 more (different ones)!
lelg35 - my thoughts exactly once I gave them one chance to repair I got nervous! Plus they got greese prints all over my dash, I wasnt a happy camper. I will have to take it out on their loaner car next time! lol
The rubberstopper works like a charm and should you want to remove it one day, it comes off easy with double sided felt tape. Just stick it to the a/c vent itself - NOT the door. (Goo Gone, etc. all do the trick)

P.S. The rubber stopper I used is a square 3M one, square'ish shape about 1/2 inch think (maybe a little thicker). Its actually the same rubber stopper used in my rolling shower doors in the bathroom that protects the glass sliding doors.
It is a shame to have to rig up a "INFINITI", but hey, thats all the dealers do anyways. (By evidence of the first post in this thread)..

Oh... Happy Day-ay! (Oh Happy Dayyy...)

Ahem.
Excuse me for breaking out in song, but that damned finisher below the clock has been driving me insane!
Its the same exact problem I have! Whee! I've been complaining about this since I bought the car.
Whee! It even covers the vent edges. Yay! This makes me that much happier that I delayed bringing my car in for service for a few days.
Now, if someone can get a TSB written for the rear quarter window (right side in my case) I'm set.

Excellent Timing
I've had my car worked on 2 times now to fix the center console creak.
Both times the fix lasted about a week. I thought I was going to have to argue with them to fix it again but with this TSB I think it should be fine.
I just wish they would come out for a fix for the driver side window clicking near the top when it's rolled all the way up. There was a TSB for 2004 models but not for 2005 models. I think they tried the 2004 fix but it didn't work at all.
Would you guys recommend I get all the fixes for the creaks, like the clock finisher noise eventhough I haven't really experienced it yet? Then again, it could have been drowned out by the center console creak up til now.
Thinking about getting them to do the rear window clicking noise TSB fix too.
Arghhhh, if the car only had less interior noise I would be pretty happy with it. Everytime I drive another car, even cheap rental cars, I am reminded how creak free they are compared to my G35.

Is there a certain time frame or length of time after you got the car that these rattles showed up? I have had mine for almost 2 monthes and have 3k miles and have no rattles only thing I notice is that if I turn up the radio up there is a faint rattle coming from the door and no there is nothing in the pocket that was the first thing I looked for. I believe there is no expiration date for TSB on alldata.com you used to be able to check any car for TSB's or recalls except Honda's. Here is some info for sedan owners I am sure some is old news and they now do charge for info which is BS they used to provide it for free.

My rattles started also in the first few weeks. It really is annoying - I am a "rattle freak" whereas I got rid of a car one time because of a very annoying rattle noise that the dealer (nor myself) could fix. It seems almost all rattles on the G can be fixed. If anyone out there is reading this saying "I am not going to buy one of those rattle-boxes!" please know, the G is no different than most other cars. Some rattle, some dont. Even my Altima, which I loved had a squeek/chirping noise from the dash. The dealer attempted to fix that one, but I ended up shoving a piece of cloth in there and "wala" - no more noise. Anything that moves, with lots of parts is subject to squeeks and rattles. As long as everything is tight and you can fix (or the dealer can) you will be "A-okay". Now the guy talking about his rear lid and window - thats a whole other story..
