New transmission replaced by Infiniti, but maybe new problem?
My 2003 coupe 6MTransmission started grinding third gear at 36k miles. It also had the rattling/rotating noise when the clutch was not pressed down. I brought it to Infiniti at 39k and they ended up replacing the whole transmission. The rotating noise is gone but the car now bogs when going into first and second gear. I have no idea what the problem is. Maybe the clutch needs to be broken in? I dont know. Would you guys happen to know?

Me too
I have a 2003 6MT that is in the shop now. I have ~20k on mine and it was also grinding in 3rd. I just got a call (30 minutes ago) that said they will have to rebuild or replace the transmission. can you tell me if they replaced with a new or a rebuilt transmission. Also what revision of transmission did they use. Finally (man i have alot of questions), did they replace the clutch as well or just the transmission?

Just to close out this post (and hopefully make the info available for others). The dealership did replace my tranny and clutch. They said they would use the following parts:
Transmission 32010 c/d 008
Clutch Disk 30100 c/d 019
Gear Oil (did not write down the part number)
When i pick up my car this afternoon - i can confirm on the invoice. I was surprised that the problem was diagnosed, parts arrived and installed in under a week. I expected it to be much worse for something like a tranny

Hey Mr G3FIZZO, I HAVE A QUESTION, PLEASE HELP!
Did The Grinding Happen All The Time In Third Gear?where U Unable To Get To Third Without It Grinding? I Get Grinding In Third Gear But Only When I Make Quick Shifts From Second To Third Usually Under 2k Rpm. For The Most Part I Can Avoid The Grinding. Should I Be Worried That It Happens At All? By The Way I Am Depressing The Clutch All The Way, Thats Not The Problem.
Thanx.
Thanx.

My car was not grinding everytime i shifted into 3rd, but as G35ANSTA mentioned, as i shifted quickly into 3rd. I am not sure how important the RPM's are but i could reproduce the grind at 3k. I have not had a problem since they changed out the tranny/clutch. As soon as i could reproduce the problem with a tech in the car, they were willing to change the parts.

Fortunately, I have a DECENT Infiniti dealership, so I have had two tranny replacements with no issue from them. My car's synchros seemed to have gone, since it'd grind into 5th gear each time. The tranny's were both the same 2005 revision and yes, you get a new clutch each time they replace the tranny.
This is the first and LAST Infiniti that I buy. I now have a new engine sound from 1500-2500rpm that sounds like a metallic chirping/grinding that goes away after the car warms up. I hope Toyota comes out with a viable sports car soon as I'm done with the Nissan family.
