UTEC....Worth it

Anyhow, as it already has been stated, UTEC is worth it if you plan on going FI in the future. As for me, Ill be getting an ECU Reflash (TS) as soon as I have enough bolt-ons.
But I also plan on getting a UTEC in the future, as I will be going FI after graduation college.

why does everyone love the utec? I had one on my wrx and then got rid of it cause it was such a piece of $hit and got a ecutek reflash and will never put another piggyback comp on my car again. But have they made some serious upgrades to it? because when ever the weather changed my car ran like garbage. I also paid to have it tuned by 2 diff tuners.
Its not perfect by any means, but it is fairly cheap ($900) and has the ability to drive the coils/injectors by itself. The OEM MAF hits 5V at ~5000 RPM on 8psi. This makes it impossible for any reflash or other 'piggyback' to tune the car with the MAF. The UTEC, to my knowledge, is the cheapest tuning tool that will do this.
Its all about goals. Why spend another $2K on something I don't need?
To me, if I can't tune it myself, I don't want it, period. I had a Unichip in my car for a year and it was miserable. No one within 5 hours of me could tune the thing, I was stuck with my tune.
With my UTEC I can adjust my temp compensation tables if the temp changes and my car starts running bad. If I run lean (or rich) anywhere in the map I can add fuel. Not only did I save $1-2000 over a full standalone, I am also saving money on tuning, and more importantly time on getting the thing tuned by someone else.

like i said i know what the utec does, ive had it and used it.......... I was just wondering if they made any improvements with it? I Think that the when the cobb software comes out it will be a better option. The stock reflash is always a little smoother then the piggyback unit. Its really the set it and forget it option.
I honestly don't know much about the EU. What is its resoluton? Price wise it is very comprable to the UTEC, but the UTEC is plug and play, and doesn't require a million other pieces to make it work.

Me either, nor would it be worth it. MAP is the way to go for boost!

Seems to have some nice features. They modified the fuel adjustments so it's not a modified maf signal (that could affect timing). Also ign is directly changed.
But I'm by no means an expert and I would really like to hear your opinions.
You are right about the harness thing. It seems a car specific harness is necessary to get it "plug and play".

I just talked to a buddy that has the EU (he is wanting to buy a UTEC) and he said that the EU has a resolution of 500 RPM. The UTEC has a 250 RPM resolution.
The EU is capable of driving the injectors and coils directly - I didn't know that.

Jeff, check out this thread over on my350z about the EU: http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=224832
