I wouldn't mind at all... but I don't have Cipher. Since I did my tune through Church Automotive I paid only for the license and Shawns time. Both very well worth it!

As stated in above post, you might want to PM Shawn to see if he is willing to share anything.

If I had the software I could, but HKS requires you to be a distributor (and then some) to get the software, and they are very, very protective of it.

I've worked with some guys from Japan who have licenses and the package is pretty easy to use, but I can't afford to become an F-Con dealer given how few cars the package makes sense for.

But if you can get the software in some way, I can tune it for you.

Mike,

I'm glad everything is working out for you. I would be more than happy to provide information for anyone interested in the low rpm tweaking we did on Mike's car.

The critical factor was realizing that because of the torque converter slip that we had to play further down the load range than we do at full throttle on the dyno. Adding timing here was the most important - in some areas we added 4-5 deg over stock and knock was not an issue surprisingly (it usually is on NA cars). We also ramped in the throttle opening a little quicker as well down low, and extended our optimum full throttle cam timing tables a little further down the load range to compensate for the aforementioned converter vs. speed issues.

I would be more than happy to provide the ROM itself to Uprev for future inclusion in user packages as well.

fuel consumption

WOW!!!! Check this out…

Have you even seen you fuel gauge go UP?... And low fuel light goes off?... I’ve had the fuel light come on, then go off for maybe a few miles then come back on and stay on… but last night the light was on, then went off for over 20 miles! AND my fuel gauge went from almost empty to 2 notches above empty!

Let me explain…

Those that have followed my review know that I have econo map, 91 performance map, race gas performance map, valet map, and 2.5K rev launch map… The problem is I don’t drive the car often enough to get an average mpg in the econo and performance modes… A few days ago I went on a short trip (75 miles each way) and intended to get econo mpg on the way up and 91 perf mpg on the way back – I wasn’t able to get the actual mpg but I did use the 2 different maps (one each way) and was able to tell by the gauge that in fact the econo tune was getting better gas mileage (but how much of a diff, I couldn’t determine without averaging the mpg)…

So anyway, to explain first paragraph – last night I’m driving spirited (in 91 performance mode) entering fwy and gauge is dropping as it normally does when I get frisky… the low fuel light came on and like I said, the needle was almost on the last line (the thick “E” line) it was like this for 2 miles on flat straight freeway)… I changed maps to the econo tune hoping it would get me home without having to fuel up… within a mile or so not only did the light go off (and stayed off for more than 20 miles), but the needle went UP TWO NOTCHES!!!!

I always thought the fuel gauge was based on a sensor in the tank… But know I realize it also is tied into the ECU… the ECU must determine conditions and calculate fuel consumption to register fuel in the fuel gauge. I guess it’s not so bewildering considering the real time avg mpg used (in some cars) must be determined from engine speed and whatever else it calculates… but I was actually blown away to see the gauge go UP when I switched to econo mode.

So, even though I don’t know the actual mpg difference between the econo map and 91 performance map, I am positive (based on the two recent factors) that the econo mode is giving better gas mileage.

It might be boring to some, but I found it to be very interesting a cool! So now, not only does the Osiris let you go from ho hum less than spirited econo driving to yippee performance mode, and feel like you just modded your car… but it also lets you go from spirited modded fun to seemingly adding a couple gallons with a push of a couple buttons to econo on the fly!

That is sweet, How much of a difference is there between the stock tune and the economic tune? Is the car running leaner than stock, less agressive timing or what?

I asked Shawn how close to OEM he made the econo tune, he said it's actually less aggressive... however, the car surprisingly still feels real strong even in econo mode (I guess with mods, it's gonna be different anyway)... I think the main thing is the timing (less advance, or no advance I guess), but Shawn would know better... I suppose I should ask him for the data.

nice!!! Have you practiced with the 2.5k launch map yet? Does it switch to the performance map after you launch?

I plan on getting Shawn to tune my car with osiris once I get it back and look into getting a launch map.

I haven’t used it at the track yet… but I have played with it a bit on empty street… all the parameters are identical to the race gas performance map other than rev limiter… so I can go to any other map by holding the set switch and choosing the map, it doesn’t engage until you let off the set switch… so in launch mode I rev and have the race map ready, when time to launch just let off the set switch and it’s in full performance mode. (not a great explanation, but I think you get it).

There is still the brake trq ECU power cut issue, so I doubt I will use it much at the track… but once someone comes up with a way to trick the ECU to not know the brake and accelerator are being pressed at the same time the launch map will be a very cool feature.

I told Shawn about the power cut issue… he said he would mention to Uprev to see if they can create something for it… but I have talked to 2 other manufacturers too and nothing has happened yet… it’s either not a priority for anyone or no one wants potential liability. I presume it’s a “safety” feature from Nissan so bypassing it might be an issue? I hope someone does something soon!

Kevin at KPtechnologies has been working on a circuit board to do this. I think he stopped the project because it affected the cruise control on automatics, but you can still put in a manual switch to do it.

I forget which wires it is, but he has a thread on my350z about it.

he has the VDC stay on feature... he gave up on what I'm referring to quite a while back - not only due to CC it was something to do with trq converter or something... I though it seemed odd and asked him in the thread about it - I don’t know the specifics other than its not happening through KPtechnologies. It’s too bad, because I was waiting for that one.

I'm very aware of all the threads about that mod... I was in them while waiting/hoping for the mod. There's also a thread on this forum.

there are presently 1 possibly 2 other venddors that might try it.

Ok so I need a bit of clarification...
I think that I want to get this mod for my ride but I want to make sure that it is possible to tune it from home. Any help would be appreciated...

They are working on an end user tuner version, but it hasn’t been released yet (to my knowledge)… for now you either receive the tune from UpRev via email or have a tuner custom tune for you…
