Can anyone recommend a budget friendly ECU or ODB or whatever?
Can anyone recommend a budget friendly ECU or ODB or whatever?
I am looking to upgrade the ECU/ODB computer in the car, and would like to get more HP and torq (and gas mileage LOL) or whatever performance upgrades there are to be had.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of which one is easy on the wallet, yet yielding good results?
I saw one called Bully Dog, is that any good?
Thanks.

Uprev Osiris is the way to go,around $350CAD and you get 5 tunes. If you want data-logging for Osiris, the Cipher cable is $245 CAD,it connects to the car's OBD port and a laptop. There are other OBD 2 readers with data logging ability on the market,as well, that might be cheaper than the cable. With Osiris you can switch between the tunes,as you drive, via combinations of the cruise control buttons.
Cobb Tuning is another one, though it's at the higher end of the price scale, around $750CAD. It's a hand-held unit, has data logging and comes with 5 tunes. It's also the only one of the three I mentioned with an anti-theft feature(disables car)though you could have one of the tunes, with Osiris, set so the car won't start until you change maps. With Cobb you can't change tunes on the go unless the unit is plugged in.
Bully Dog,imho,is overpriced solely for the reason that you only get 2 tunes. I've heard some people are happy with it,to each their own.
These three I've mentioned are all plug-n-play,meaning they all connect to the OBD port and install time is negligible. Other ECU tuning options(piggy-back,stand alone)either are wired in parallel or replace the OEM ECU,so install costs are involved.
Whatever you decide on don't rely on the supplied tunes, they're someone's best guestimate based on your car's mods. You'll be much happier with a dyno tune.
Hope you find this info useful, happy

I have the cobb accesport and the race software lets you take the car to the dyno and adjust almost every factory ECU parameter. The maps that come included with the unit are good as well I remember I had a MD 5/16, intake, ported cyl heads, headers and the stage 2 was VERY noticeable, my dad used my car once before the cobb stage 2 and then a couple of days ago he went to a nearby Walgreen and used it because his car was at the mechanic and said he noticed something very different with the car. I guess the included maps are very oriented for people that don't want to take the car to the dyno but still feel a strong change in the event of having a couple of mods. I hope this helps....
You get the added bonus of reading codes and deleting them....

Each one can have it's own opinion, I have a wideband connected to my car (a plx that monitors A/F and EGT and I haven't seen my car lean before maybe you should get your car checked by a tuner or something.
