Unhappy Technosquare is no longer offering ECU reflashes.. Read (no options for doggy doors!)

From Cheston, long time maxima owner and owner of a TS tuned turbo 350z

http://my350z.com/forum/tuning/51089...reflashes.html

Techno Square Inc. will no longer be offering ECU reflashes due to the recent employment decision of their current engine tuner to leave the company.

Last year was a hard year for Techno Square.. their President and lead fabricator (Richey Watanabe) passed away due after a long and arduous fight against Pancreatic Cancer. As the company struggled to recooperate and restructure, the Engine Tuner decided to pursue other career options in Japan and here locally.

Howard Watanabe, (Richey's brother), the current owner of Techno Square has decided to now concentrate solely on engine building, race chassis preparation, and installations, however he no longer has the ability to offer engine tuning services. Techno Square is also working with Right Hand Drive Japan to help with their importing and legalization of RHD vehicles..

Steve Mitchell, who is a good family friend of the Watanabes (Steve, formerly of M-WorkZ fame), will soon be heading up Cobb So Cal as a manager, so hopefully something can be worked out [as far as Engine management is concerned]... but effectively immediately, TechnoSquare will no longer offer reflashes.

After as the doggy door issues:

The last word with Cobb is that they couldn't or were unwilling to get 03base sedan unit up and running.

TS uses the Techtom to reflash (I think) and I don't know what Cobb uses.

Maybe he can get the Cobb to work on the doggy doors

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

On a serious note, I didn't know Richey passed away

AAM still offers the reflash. I think they use the same software as Technosquare.

COBB was unwilling to put the time into cracking the ECU code (diff than the rest) because they didnt see enough interest to support the costs.

I guess they fail to understand the Maxima aftermarket crowd is huge (much bigger than the G crowd) and the 02-03 Maximas and Altimas use a much similiar code in their ECUs, if not the same. Cracking the code would open up a much larger customer base than just the 03 doggy door owners.

You're right, but unfortunately Max/Alt owners (for the most part) are cheap. They rather go with an SAFC and beat around the bush. Then the ones that actually want to put money in to their vehicles go full standalone.

In my honest opinion, I believe that the best way to get around these issues is to modify the 2004 ECU so that you can send it get it programmed via the UpRev / Cobb system. I am currently working on this process just it's hella expensive since I am the tester and the patch harness is being custom made.

One thing I've always found interesting is that many on this site and my350z claim you must tune for all the mods to work on these cars. While I do agree to a degree for the 04+ cars, it sure appears that the early 03 ECUs don't have much trouble adapting to mods. VQ35 Maximas and Altimas have no trouble making big gains with absolutely no tuning and sometimes all it does take is a SAFC to get the things perfect. I've never seen evidence of the ECU fighting with the mods and actually killing power. The Maxima crew is one hell of a crafty bunch. Far more crafty and experimental than the G and Z crowds. I guess that's why there are so many NA VQ35 Maximas running deep 12s compared to Gs and Zs. Intakes always seem to be the one mod that can jack things up on the Maximas and Altimas, just like the G. I guess that's why most of the quickest/fastest Maximas run slightly modded OEM airboxes.

I totally agree, this is definitely the best route. However, it's costly, time consuming, and a bit risky unless you exactly what you're doing. If you can develop a patch plug/play harness for the 03 G and Maxima/Altimas, you'll be a rich man. For most of us 03 early sedan owners, it's simply too costly to buy a used ECU, buy a patch harness, get the 04 ECU flashed by a Consult, then by the tuning software, then tune. You could be taking $1,500+. I'd rather just move on to a different car.
