Seems like the cost for most people would not be worth a yearly upgrade. Between the purchase of the upgrade and paying a dealership to install, unless you're finding that a lot of roads you drive on are not showing up properly on the system, why bother? Maybe every 2-3 years it makes sense.

 

I just spoke with Zerin and they informed me that there will not be an update until around August 08. They had to push back the update release.

I called Infiniti and filed a complaint with them. If you are waiting for a HDD update call Infiniti and complain also. The number associated with my file number is 1-866-799-1906 ext. 1437. You can referrence my file number (5989005) if you want.

Maybe the more compalints Infiniti receives they will get Zerin working for a solution a little quicker.

I'll be calling Infiniti to complain for sure. The coverage is horrid and I live / visit major cities in Texas.

 

You're kidding me! What's the deal? I mean, the got the info on the hard drive to begin with...so what's so hard about keeping it updated?

 

That's a big delay, but lets me hang onto my money for a while longer. I don't know enough about the system, but is the entire navigation and system Zenrin or is Zenrin just the supplier of the maps and Infiniti makes the system? Reason I ask, is they could be modifying the interface to a new version or removing the locks, or possibly adding the other services from XM such as real-time gas prices, weather, and the next level of traffic flow data.... Is all of that Zenrin or Infiniti?

I bet they are still also trying to figure out how to distribute the software... I bet they are stuck between having the dealer do it or the customer do it. I would imagine consumer reaction to the dealer effort would result in negligible sales and I bet the dealer wants no part of a "free" install... so the consumer's not going to put up with a $300-$600 nav software update... they won't sell any of them. but then they are faced with doing a CF card update of some soft (if even technically possible) and risk piracy which potentially hurts their sales... but honestly, you can pirate the DVD so their sales are going to be the same.

I think their best bet is to allow consumer self-installs. it's the best option for the consumer, dealer & Zenrin.

 

After cooling off a bit from my previous post (and the email from Zenrin) I decided to call Infiniti and complain.


So I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs at 800.662.6200 option 7 (linked for # verification). DO NOT use option 6 (Nav system inquiries). Using option 6 will take you to Zenrin's Helpdesk in India while option 7 will connect you to someone helpful in North America.

I explained, calmly, my disappointment in the lack of release and the "new" tentative date for the Nav System update (being almost 2 years from release of the car). The person on the other end was friendly, helpful and understood immediately the frustration of such a long wait for updates. She (Melissa) took my VIN number, verified my address, and opened up a case number for me. She was supposed to call me back a day or two after I called, but hasn't yet as she's still researching the issue with Zenrin (I called Infiniti back). However, she did not think the odds were good of making any progress.

As I said, she was friendly and helpful, so much so that she went on to advise me to contact all the other g35 owners I know and have them call and file similar complaints. Using my complaint number won't do the trick as it's tied to MY VIN. You have to call in using your own VIN.

So here I am, starting the ball rolling.

Process:
Have your VIN handy.
Call 800.662.6200, Option 7.
Explain, politely, that you're complaining about the continued delays in the release of Navigation updates for the 2007 G35 and that you'd like to file a complaint against Zenrin.

The more people who do so the more likely we are to see something done about it!

To the best of my knowledge this delay only affects the 2007 G35. 2006 and prior already have updates this year, and 2008 isn't slated for an update until October.

So c'mon 2007 owners...
